yes you can freeze milk, we used to do with (real) baby's milk.

Watch out though that milk expands (like water) when it freezes so leave a space in the airtight container.

It should help cool the fridge, but by how much?

Just been on to the dairy council website and you can freeze milk obviously in a carton not a bottle once defrosted use within two days hope this helps.

Have frozen semi skimmed milk, many times, without any problem.

Long  Life  Milk  in  the  TetraPaks  almost  expects  to  be  frozen  !  And  as  DD  says  a  little  shake  before  opening  and  you'll  never  know  the  difference !  Unless,  of  course,  you  forgot  to  allow  it  to  thaw  first

Be aware that frozen milk may look more yellowy than unfrozen, but when thawed looks normal

I freeze milk, but i also freeze small bottles of water - not quite full - and a loaf of bread.  I put the loaf in the ice box and the bottles in different parts of the fridge.

We use a cool bag when taking the caravan from storage. We find if it is reasonably full and has a couple of ice packs in we can generally get where we are going with the food still fresh.

Can you not turn the fridge on on gas the night before?

If not, I would invest in an electric cool box for anything you want to take with you, and turn the fridge onto gas as soon as you arrive on site....the gas works better than the electricity.

An hour or so on gas, then turn it to electricity and load up your food.

BTW...yes....you can freeze semi-skimmed milk, just shake it well when thawed.  Orange juice freezes well too.

Our caravan is in storage, and I always use an insulated cool bag with a couple of ice packs, as has been suggested before. I've never had a problem.

We freeze a couple of 2l litre skimmed cravendales and take those with us - they cool the fridge like cool blocks and taste the same once they have defrosted.

When we go to France and the fridge is off for the ferry trip the fridge warms up, what we do is freeze a couple of 4 pint milk bottles with water, not only does this keep the fridge cool but also we have fresh cold water when we arrive in the lovely warm
    French weather Happy

We freeze milk and bread. We split the milk between two same sized containers. Apart from avoiding the splitting of the container, we perceive the milk thaws quicker.

Get hold of some ice cube trays, the ones that make really large cubes (as were issued with 'fridges in the 60s and 70s). You dont need many, as once milk is frozen you tip the cubes into a bag or box and freeze some more untill you have as much as you need.

An alternative mould is to use the small round containers in which the supermarket sells you pre-packed houmous, rollmop herring, etc.  I often make up an assortment of sizes as somtimes one needs more milk than others.

We do it all the time both at home and take them away in the caravan fridge. We find it keeps the fridge cold on overnight crossings and keeps us in fresh milk for about the first week of a trip. The plastic bottles do expand and have split on occasion so
we stand ours in polythene bags just in case.

When we are abroad and temperature is hiotting the 30s I take some bottles of water when going to the beach etc. I don't have them quite full (pour a drop out) and squeeze them slightly when closing the top to remove some air and leave room for expansion.

Obviously on the beach we might leave one wrapped in a towel andexpose amother to some heat so that it partially melts so we always have chilled water and no split botles or caps pushed off. Shoul work for milk

We freeze milk and small water bottles to keep the fridge cool which also gives the children cold water when we arrive.

Just be careful of the drips as the milk thaws.
