Love caravaning and are new to it this year, love our Coachman Amara 380/2  just one problem both of us are suffering back ache whilst sleeping on our single sofa beds we use mattress toppers already so we thought we'd try self inflating sleeping mats next,
anyone tried them are they any good any suggestions?

My back appreciates a really thick topper but storing that isn't easy with inflatable storing would be easy.  I roll mine up and store under the window with throw over it which makes a nice sofa back too.  It came from Dunelm.

stefandange do you turn cushions  the flat side up!  All the toppers in the world will not help if the cushions rake, bump etc in the wrong places! I am lucky my cushions are completely flat! No buttons or raking!

We use self inflating mats in the campervan, very comfortable and storage is not a problem. You can get different thicknesses and we find the thicker ones more comfy and not a big difference in storage space.

Thanks everyone ,our toppers are quite thick and we have tried using both sides of the cushions without success so we will now buy a couple of self inflating camper mats.

If your back has a serious problem I would go for a fixed bed.

Thanks Wildwood,  if the self inflating mats don't work for us we will have to look at the fixed bed option

Stephand Ange, How I can sympathise with you. Both myself and the OH  have back problems. We got round it my having some  light weight plywood cut  to fit the beds and they just fit securely inside the rims of the seats and being light weight do not affect
the overall weight of the van. This way the cushions have an extra firm base and allow for a much more comfortable night.and pain free mornings.  SG2

Thanks for that great idea SG2, gives us another option and sounds cheap to do.

We use memory foam mattress toppers (2 single on a double we make up as they are easier to store).  Each in their own zipped sheeting cover, so no bed making except put these downs, pillows and duvet. Seems to stop our backs aching but it depends on your particular problem.  Hope you find a solution.

We use the single sofa beds as the two single beds so would need two more toppers, running out of storage space in our caravan though but thanks Bakers2 yet another option for us we are optimistic about getting a good nights sleep
    on
    our next outing.

We do exactely the same, sleep better in the van than we do at home.

We have 2 single fixed beds with decent mattress and a 7cm memory foam topper, works fine.

+1 for Duvulay's. We have them and they are magnificent. They come with built in memory foam bases of varying thickness, sewn in duvet covers on one side only, wider than the mattress base, so you dont uncover yourself when you turn in the night, have removeable,
washable covers and also have very handy sotrage bags for stowing under the couches. They are a bit expensive, but quality doesn't come cheap, more importantly, there hasn't been a night away when we have used them when we are sorry we did. Just look them
up via Google, they are based in Yorkshire and you can order online. The Duvulay matching memory foam pillows are magnificent too !
