I'm seriously thinking of joining you Meg, perhaps not for that long but a couple of weeks away from the worst of the winter here rather appeals.  Which route do you use over the ditch?

Hi Peter.  It would be good to meet you at last. I'm going as assistant rally steward and have not yet booked my passage.  The Portsmouth Santander route is preferable, but there will probably be snow on the route past Madrid.

That's very tempting Meg although I wouldn't do the Santander crossing - for me or the dogs!

Pippa. Jean M is coming with me and she won't do the route through France.  Our dogs will need to go in kennels are there are no pet friendly cabins left on the sailing we want. We will be taking the stugeron!

I hadn't heard of Stugeron - but I will get some!  And carry on dreaming about Some Spannish Sun!  However top of my dream list is New Zealand - but not sure on the finances at the moment - the taxman wants some capital gain and I can't figure out exactly
    how much!

Hi Eileen.  Hope you soon get the hospital all clear.   There are quite a few companions down there now, according to the facebook postings. Others are going in January.

Sorry guys but I will not be joining you after all. I did seriously consider Spain but I'm afraid the draw of some proper sunshine took over.  I'm not going to Spain now, I'm off to Cuba in a few weeks for a while.  Then I can come home in time to get my garden sorted for the summer but not worry if we don't get very much sunshine in our English summer.

I have had difficulty accessing this page and missed the last post, which was a shame as I was at the C&CC rally at Almafra site in L'Alfas del Pi next to Albir from the 14th March till 31st March.  Now at Valencia working my way up the coast.  Plans changed and did not stay at Castillo de Banos for the full rally.  Now going up the Med coast into France and making for the Voges area by 14th May.

Meg, I realise you are not long back from Castillo de Banos and would love to hear how it was. I spent March and April 2016 in Spain and Portugal travelling from Plymouth to Santander with pooch. I want to do similar in 2018 and would love to hear about the CCC rally, was it fun? and anyone else who is thinking of going.Happy travels.

Hi Sally.  Sorry I have only just picked up this message.  I was at the rally as an assistant steward and saw it from a different angle to a camper. I left the rally at Castillo de Banos and went to the rally at Almafra near Benidorm on 14th March.  Finished there on 31st March and an now working my way through France.  Running a rally in the Voges for the C&CC from 21st May till 1th June.

There are a lot of single campers out and about in Spain in the winter.  If you are a member of the New Companions Camping Club there is usually a discussion and get together at the AGM in September at Stratford.  That would be a good starting point for you.  The rallies are all different and different people like different things. Castillo de Banos would not do for me, but other singles loved it.

I will look out for further posts when I am next online.

    Meg

Hi, think I have recovered from Spain - what a brilliant adventure! I can recommend the CCC rallies - well they work for me. As Meg says lots of info and company to be found within New Compainoins. I did a month at Marjal and a month at Castillos de Banos ....totally different places but I enjoyed both. Marjal had a heated pool and Spa. Banos is much smaller, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. The stewards organised trips which was great.

Hello fellow Motorhomers and Caravaners, who are thinking about traveling to Spain for the Winter.... have you thought about coming to Portugal for the winter???

Its taken 12 months to build, but l can finally announce we are open and extend a warm welcome to fellow Motorhomers who wish to visit central Algarve Portugal.

We are a 20 pitch site built by Motorhomers for fellow Motorhomers to enjoy a stay in the sun. We are set up like a typical UK CL with all the mod-cons for easy touring. Good security - cctv & fully fenced. Central location to explore the area of Vilamoura & Quarteira by bicycle or walk. We extend a warm welcome to fellow motorhomers from around the UK to pop in and say Hello, as its always lovely to meet fellow motorhomers on their travels and hear what they're up to.

We are open 365 days per year and are set up for long Winter Stays in the sun for you to enjoy.

Looking forward to meeting up with you all on the road...

    many thanks,

    Anthea

    Hi Anthea

I will pass your details on to people in the New Companions who are considering Portugal.  I know the next question they will ask is "how much per night"  closly followed by "any reduction for single campers"

    Hello Meg,

Many thanks for your lovely comments and passing on our information.

The nightly cost is only €8.00 which includes hard standing pitch + up to 2 people + 4KW of electricity (per day).

Fresh drinking Water is only €1 per 50 Litres.

Due to the very low cost of the pitch per day - we cannot give a reduction in price to single occupants, but if they are traveling with a dog/s then we would accept the animal/s Free of charge, instead of the usual charge of €1 per day.

However, if there is a group booking ( more than 10 pitches) then we have other 'offers' that we can discuss with the motorhomers.

    Hope this helps.

    many thanks,

    Anthea

I must say this weather is making a visit to the sun rather a nice idea - someone just predicted it could be a long winter!   I could be tempted if it is!
