I plan to do a trip to Brittany and The Loire for the first 3 weeks in September.

Anyone interested in joining in all or part of the trip?

Plans are flexible but probably be 3 nights in each location and because it is out of school holidays much of it will not be prebooked.

I am assuming there will be no violence risk, no fuel strikes and we will still be allowed in!!!

    I'm tempted! Have been aiming to get over the water and as I'm retiring this summer it will be the first time I have ever been able to holiday in September!

    I am also very tempted. I haven't driven anythng on the Continent for perhaps 15 - 20 years and never a motorhome. However, one of my reasons to buy a motorhome (1 year ago) is to take 6-8 week breaks on the continent, either in spring or during Sept / Oct.
    Do you have a leaving date and ferry port in mind? I've just returned from 2 weeks in Fort William / Findhorn / Edinburgh and someone told me about ACSI sites - apparently a good idea out of the main season.

    Right about ACSI - I found them a few years ago and they are usually excellent value - depends what you want of course but the choice is pretty huge. I go for the fairly low budget ones as frills don't interest me but there are pletny with swimming pools etc etc.   The number of ACSI sites is growing quite fast here too.  If I dared make any plans at the moment I would be on for the trip - but I will watch your posts carefully to see if I can escape!

    PJ....at present my dates are 1st  to 20th September. I have had a look at crossings and as I live in Berkshire Portsmouth is an obvious choice. (This would also suit CamperCarolyn as she is in Hampshire)  However the costs are high so I am having a look
    at Dover and running across the north coast of France, maybe taking a couple of days. However nothing decided yet!

    I have bought an ACSI card for 2016 so hope to use this but not exclusively if I find non ACSI sites that I like the look of.

    You would be very welcome to join in for as much of the time as you wish.

    Does anyone know if it is possible to swap email addresses (via CC) without posting on the thread?

    Hope you enjoyed Scotland as much as I did in early May!

    I live in Bristol so Portsmouth is close for me too. Is Poole cheaper? Scotland was excellent for me. I ticked a number of things off my bucket list such as Edinburgh botanics (3 visits) and Ben Nevis. Paid for it though with rigor mortice of the thighs for 3 days afterwards.

    PJ...Poole is slightly cheaper so I will definitely give that some thought. The downside is that there is only 1 ferry on that route and only one daily sailing but I guess if there are any problems Brit F would probably reroute without too much trouble..

    Glad to see that this trip to France is gaining momentum!  

    Welcome aboard Phil!  I look forward to meeting you.  I used to live in Wiltshire/Somerset/Bristol/Bath so I know your area quite well and I am up in Bristol quite often, visiting friends and relatives.

    I also have an email address that I set up for this forum as it is not possible to message individuals.  It is campercarolyn3@yahoo.com.  

    I'm not keen on travelling Dover to Calais even though it's cheaper but I'm quite happy to meet up in France if everybody else wants to go that way.  

    My ACSI book arrived yesterday and I have just bought a couple of guide books so I have plenty of reading to do while I'm away in Black Knowl next week!  

    Looking forward to our trip!!!!

    Hi eiflow I've just returned from France and intended to go back in September, so yes I'm interested. I will email you on the address you gave so that you send me the itinerary ,thanks. By the way I tend to use the ACSI sites and have found them to be good.

    Hi eiflow.

    I've been motorhoming for 30 years in Europe, the past ten on my own, but getting bored with quiet evenings (!), eating alone at restos or at the m/h, and talking to surprised strangers at interesting chateaux etc.

    I'd cross Newhaven (30 mins from my house) to Dieppe and would meet up over there if you could let me have the itinerary.

    Why keep your itinerary secret?  Surely that is the point of this thread to post things so that anyone interested can respond.  I'm sort of half interested but the broad destination of "France" doesn't do a lot to float my boat.

    I think it would be great to have the itinarary posted here AND keep in touch by email for those really interested.  With CT being so unreliable - as I found to my exasperation earlier this year while in France and wanting to join the Wales tour!  So lucky
    I had Peter's email address to get the details and news of the French strikers!

    I agree with Pippah. I check this site daily to find out what is happening. I'm committed 'in my head' but haven't actually booked a ferry yet. Is anyone likely to stay over past 19th? Being retired I have time and the ferry costs at least feel to be lower when spread over more days.

    I'm working on all the paper work required. Does anyone have knowledge / experience of Camping Card Europe or Camping Card International?

    Is a weigh bridge certificate for a motothome essential / useful? I thought it would be at least an interesting experience.

    The only card I have needed is the ACSI one that comes with the book - I did get their camping card once but was never asked for it - Can't help with the motorhome though. 

    Much as I would love to join you all - I think the 4 dogs kind of rules me out!  Unless I manage to find a foster home for my son's two!  They had passports but DIL seems to have lost them - and I don't fancy starting again with them.

    Thank you, have done. Martin tells me you are the only other woman so far. Are you confirmed and which crossing are you taking, is it the same as Martin? I am in Cornwall so any crossing other than Plymouth is rather a long way. previously I have always
    used the tunnel. But I'm happy to travel to a crossing that suits most.Write your comments here...

    I am taking the 0815 ferry Portsmouth to Caen on 1st returning on the1630 ferry back on 20th.  All booked up!  I think everyone is getting the ferry that is most convenient for them and we are meeting up on the first campsite.  I look forward to meeting

    Write your comments here...   I probably won't be taking a bike as I haven't really done much cycling recently.  Some of the others might be taking bikes though.   I think some of the others are also going via Poole so you might meet up with some of them
    on the ferry.  See you there!

    Hi,

    I'm booked on the Poole - Cherbourg ferry. Out Wed 31st Aug, ret. Fri 30th Sept. I shall have a cycle with me. I'm a person who rides a bike now and again in shorts rather than a cyclist in Lycra though. I recall the Normandy beaches are flatish.

    Is there an agreed meeting place with dates yet?
