A National is not like visiting a site where you book and pay when you get there, it is hard enough getting all the vans in and sited up on arrival without expecting the site marshalls to take money too. Also if you pay when you book, your pitch is secured,
if it is not paid for and the site is 'fully booked' then no more bookings would be taken and risks no-shows depriving others of a pitch. Please remember all those people on the gates seeing you in and directing operations to get everyone sited are volunteers
and have paid for their own pitches too, there are no discounts for the workers.

Brue, I think that you have mixed me up with another member. the DCOS is called Paula and I have never been to the National before.

I don't know this from direct experience, as I have made pretty clear that the national is not really my thing and the national with compulsory ehu definitely not my thing!

But I have been told because the supply is only 6amp there are problems with the power tripping out because of overloading. If you require constant power for medical reasons then it might be worth considering running your device via an inverter from the
battery that way the power supply  can be kept constant as the battery is being charged when the power is on.

What ever way enjoy the national

Thanks Boff actually my Bipap machine does have an emergency battery attached.  Not sure how that fits with their other instruction to inform your electrical supplier, but there you go.

Personally not to concerned but will inform the organisers incase of long term cuts.

    Thanks once again!

Sensible idea TF, I expect there will be a few others in the same boat. Mobility scooters have to be charged up too and it's good to have provision for those that need it.

Booked this morning no spaces left on west Central region which is were our centre is. They offered us the last pitch on South West Region which we snapped up. The lady on the phone said that it will be sold out within a couple of days

Write your comments here...That's amazing! Last year people were complaining that the National was losing popularity. Clearly that's not going to be the case for the 2017 event.

I'm not familiar with the notion of the National at all. Can anyone summarise for me, what happens at it and why it is so highly regarded by members?

In other words, what's it all about?

I heard it's filling up so haven't bothered.  I understand that there are 1,500 pitches next year.

That is quite a question Mickysf, in short it is the annual get together for any members who wish to attend. As to what happens, that is probably best covered by taking a look at the main website (banner at the top of the page under News & Events) for this
years programme. A National is not everyones cup of tea, if you like full-facility sites with hard-standings for example, it is probably going to be a new experience, on the other hand if you like CLs on grass (with ehu though) and like to look round a showground
of stalls and events, sports & fun & games. With evening entertainments of varying types too then I suggest booking
very quickly if you fancy giving it a go.

I see from the Events page that the National is now fully booked, with a waiting list. This is after just one month of the  booking opening date.

Is this a record for an National ?

The majority of Centres put a page advert in their rally books for the National.  I suggest that they don't for next years rally books as if I were a Centre member and found that the day I received my rally book and tried to book the National only to find
it was full I would be pretty jarred off.

Not really, it always used to fill up quickly and we would pick up our booking forms as soon as they appeared and send them straight in hoping to get a place (bit like Glastonbury Smile

The problem with that is that each centre has their own date that the books come out (our centre books are New Year !) Yes, they all include the National because it is a rally that counts towards members Fellowship etc in most centres. But the National has
a booking opening date that is announced for all members not just Centre members so there is no excuse to wait for a book. In some years there are places still available right up to the event, this next one is a special anniversary in a special place so not
really surprising that it has booked up very quickly.

There once was a caravanner named ET

Along with his new  friend Peedee.

     Thought they were being rational,

    In declining the CC National.

With tickets all sold in 4 week,

A awaiting list people will seek.

So its off to Sandringham we will go

But without ET and Peedee,Hey Ho

Only joking you two,ET hope you are a caravanner only couldn't fit in motor caravanner.!

Perhaps the time is right for a "Spring National" and an "Autumn National" as it appears to be something that the CC does which is very popular with it's members.

Write your comments here...It seems ridiculous that the CC puts on a rally called the National and then miss-judges the number of members wanting to attend. . There will be many disappointed members.  ----Looks like the CC needed to choose a much bigger venue.

    Cheers ...........K

..I would think its more down to resources that can be "Mustered" rather than bigger venue,it relies on as most "events",  the diminshing "army of volunteers"

When you have the option of returning to the Queens garden for a special event I suspect very few of the Exec would turn round and say 'No thanks, it might be popular this year so we'll look for somewhere a bit bigger - just in case!' Wink

Surely if it's already fully booked but there are still others that want to go, could there not be a waiting list in case of cancellations?

Indeed it needs to be manageable with the resources available.

Oh well that's our minds made up without actually giving it much thought. Would have loved to go but not sure of commitments that far ahead. Amazing all booked so quickly - and deposits???? Maybe, just maybe they could add another field?

Yes, there is a waiting list Malcolm and just as others said they cannot know their commitments that far ahead, there are also bound to be a few cancellations as things 'crop up' so it is always worth putting your name down just in case.

Oh and if that list does get very long then those in charge may well try and negotiate for a few more spaces - you never know your luck Wink
