For that purpose by far the best thig we have ever bought was a really good quality large plastic grass type mat for durability. We also have a cheap thin fabric grass type mat fitted around the electronic step with Velcro. I find this very good for
brushing your feet before getting into the van and it does not matter if it is very wet/muddy when we set off from the site re storage as it remains on the step. We do have those rubber type fabric breathable carpets but they are really for when we are camped
for any length of time and want to keep the outside surface stable and free from the grit/sand etc. Hope this helps. Regards, Roy

A good dustpan and brush works for me.

I bought a square wooden piece of decking. Its about 800mm square from B&Q. Does the job and you can stand on it even in bare feet.

We still use our old awning carpet from when we caravanned. It is made by a company called Carpetina. Its getting a bit dog eared now but its still fine for what we need it for.

Just come off a campsite in Olhao, Portugal with a lot of long termers.  Nearly all had the garden breathable black mesh - the sort you put down to stop weeds growing. I imagine it is inexpensive compared to caravan carpet. The only downside is that it only comes in one colour - black with green squares as cutting guides.  Unless I'm missing the latest camping fashion trend!

We just use a tough rubber grid type outdoor door mat, the type you can really brush your shoe soles over. Some types of shoe soles seem to pick up gravel so it will still get walked into the van as it gets embedded easily.

That's much the same as our setup and works very well. When there are a lot of small leaves about we do have to shake the plastic ground mat out regularly to get rid of the excess.
