Recording on an Avtex TV
Hi all,
We have had an Avtex 16ins TV/DVD W163 DR for about five years and it is only now on this trip that we are attempting to do some recording using a USB stick. We have managed to set it up and can record current programmes but when trying to record using the
guide, while we get as far as the recorder schedule being displayed nothing then happens when we press the OK button to set record. We presume we just need to press OK on the remote or are we supposed to highlight the OK button on the schedule then press OK
on the remote. We have tried to do this in case but can't seem to be able to scroll to those buttons. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The instructions are none too clear! All the best. Clive

Not sure what you are saying here? I can record some future programme. I do it a lot but without going out to the van i can't recall the detail.
I think with the guide up and desired programme selected I press "record" [the red spot button], then Okay to the confirmation page unless outside of the UK, where on that page I need to reset the time entries to UK time. Then the set must be on standby, or nothing happens.
What the Avtex I have cant do is record something whilst I watch anything else; its a one task at a time device. It also breaks long recordings like F1 coverage into two consecutive recordings for some reason.
If the OP needs further info, when the weather changes enough I will go and see what I really do.

I think your right ocsid, that is my recollection as well but I gave up on the record facility sometime ago for this very reason and for the fact the recording and playback format is incompatible with anything else. All in all it is next to useless as far as I am concerned. I also don't like the fact the TV comes on to enable recording.

When we first got our Avtex last year recordings were a bit hit and miss. Thinking it worked the same as Sky, but it doesn't. From memory its a case of highlighting the programme on the planner and then pressing the red record button, it should then show
the date and record times, which you can adjust if desired. Any future recordings wil show up in the schedule recording list. If you put the tv into standby make sure you leave it on the channel you want to record from.0 -
We don't have an AVTEX but a Cello tv (similar to Avtex)
We do record to an external hard drive or a peg. They have to be compatable or they don't work, they also have to be plugged in prior to setting the programme that you want to record ( Cello comes up with a display saying something about 'speed of device'
) then go into the epg and highlight the programme that you want, press the red record button, and using remote control switch tv to standby. We have watched ours to see if it will change the channel and it will, it says on the screen changing channel in .....
seconds or some such thing. We often record programmes when we go out in the evening so we can view them when we return. We also record hours of programmes while at home so we can take them away with us while in Spain.0 -

I have not been able to do that with Avtex due to incompatible formating between recording devices. Avtex seem to have a proprietary format.

We have an Avtex, it came with the van and is a very good TV. However, have found the recording function very limiting. You can only record what your watching, or not watching. You can't watch something else while recording, or even another recording while
recording. As to pausing live TV, although it says it should do this, even the high speed USB sticks seem to have a problem recording and playing at the same time, which is effectively what you are doing. Ours does it but the picture keeps pixelating. For
this reason we have bought a hard disc recorder, which is much more flexible. It also tunes in the programmes in about a tenth the time the Avtex takes. You may only have to press one button, but it is oh so slow. Ours is about 3 years old, so of course newer
models may be better.0 -
Oh boy am I glad we got the much cheaper Cello then. We can record from either freesat or freeview using a portable hard drive or peg. The fact that you can only record the programme you are watching, or not be able to record while watching a recording or
DVD is the fact that these tv's only have a single tuner.As I said we record lots of programmes at home on a hard drive and take it with us. We also record while in the van if we are going out for a meal say.
There has been times when a programme has been on both BBC or ITV that we want to watch, which is annoying as you can only watch one, we have got round this by watching the BBC and then watching the other programme afterwards on ITV+1 or recording the ITV
programme on ITV2 the next morning.Just to say we don't have to use the Cello when making records to take away, we can use the TV in the spare bedroom which is a cheapo from Tesco, infact this is the better way to do it, as when a recording is made on that TV it gives you the title of the
programme, where as the Cello one just gives you the channel you recorded and the date.0
