Protec Covers
i bought a new front cover for my Swift Challenger last September. After using about 4 times the corner around the lights developed a hole, then last week on returning from a trip I noticed a tear in bottom of the cover. I contacted Protec who said as the
cover is now 6 weeks out of warranty I would have to pay £40 to get it repaired ( cost new was £153 ). Has anyone else had this experience with Protec and can anyone recommend and front cover supplier as we will not pay to get it repaired as there is no guarantee
how long it would last.

Seems like a company to avoid.
I would use the argument that as it only lasted 6 weeks it wasn't fit for purpose and can I please have my money back. If you paid by credit card then involve the card company.

I bought a new front cover for our new Bailey Barcelona after only a few outings the inner lining started wearing away and I ended up with black marks at certain points mainly corners which i had to remove with a fine compound. then the plastic used to show the lights started to come off I know leave it at home because of the way it looks when we take it of on site. IT IS A PROTEC COVER and i would not buy from this company again.

Their warranty does not over ride the Sale of Goods Act which clearly makes reference to durability. Take into consideration that the front cover is only used for a few hours when towing and then add up approximately how many hours it has been used, I don't think they would stand a chance in a court of law.
Can I suggest that you have a word with CAB or your nearest Trading Standards? The manufacturer and the supplier are one and the same so you are covered.
Sale of Goods Act Key Facts:
1 Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).
2 Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description. Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety.
3 It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.
4 If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back "within a reasonable time". (This is not defined and will depend on circumstances)
5 For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).0 -
I have a Protec cover. I've had it for about 3 years. Last year one of the eyelets in the centre under the A frame ripped away but it's made no difference to the protection it gives or the security of the cover whilst travelling - just bloody annoying!
