Not stayed at a pitch without an EHU yet but was wondering about buying a second battery for when I do (just to be on the safe side I am a newbie).  Are there any preferred makes (or ones to avoid).  Or do people prefer to buy Generators, If so any recommendations?

Have You thought about a Solar Panel to recharge Your existing battery , either fixed or portable folding type , easier than a generator and maybe lighter than a spare battery.

Not had much to do with Solar but mentally have it down as low power, expensive and not worth the effort.  Perhaps I need to read up!

Used a solar panel for many years when on rallies with no EHU, no problems at all.

I have 150 watt free standing panels. £300 new. they have kept me going since last April. they certainly are worth the effort. Pay back already for me ;-)

Generator will make you unpopular with other site users.

If you need mains power, use a site that has it, otherwise solar panel is the way to go.

You would be totally wrong in thinking that. It all depends on what size SP you get. A 20w panel- you'd be correct- hardly worth it but I have 135w SP and it has kept my 2 X 110ah batteries fully charged for 3 years no problem.  So good is it that I don't use EHU anymore and have saved a fortune on site fees!! You do need to read up- read the 'How to survive a non 240v site" thread in the 'tips for making caravanning cheaper' section. It's a big thread but you will gain much needed knowledge .For Gods sake- DONT get a genny!!
