Motorhome TV's

Hi All, again may be another silly question. But i was wodnering if there was specific TV's for motorhomes? be it they are lighterweight, better power efficiency since running off batteries etc

I am not looking for one straight away but may consider as my MH is coming with a Status 550 TV Aerial, whether this is a good one or not, its part of the package anyways.

    I looked around a lot for a suitable tv.

    Short term solution is to buy a cheap one from the likes of Aldi but they may not stand up to the constant travel vibrations of a motorhome.

    We settled on an Avtex - they are the best and if after sales is required, they are very reliable and will arrange collection/delivery.

    So far,two years from purchase we have not needed it.

    Excellent picture quality and good sound.

    You will need a dish if you plan to use the tv "up north" though.

    Excellent thank you for your reply. So the tv ariel I have is not that great.

    Like i say i didnt really want a TV in the van but then again in days of heavy rain it may come in handy for the kids, ha ha

    Cello is another less expensive brand that makes 12V TV's suitable for MH/Caravans.

    We don't have an aerial on our motorhome but we did have the Status 550 on our last caravan and we found that it worked very well. We opted for a roof mounted satellite system and that decided us on an Avtex combi because it had both built in satellite and
    digital receivers. Obviously the choice of TV is dependent on what you want to pay. The Avtex suits us because in the first place its a good TV and has an excellent picture.

    Yes, we went for a built - in receiver and the dvd player.

    All worth while for a rainy day.

    If you wildcamp, the current draw on an Avtex is low and if you have a solar panel there are no battery issues.

    You can watch a full length film /3 hrs of tv without causing any flat Battery issues with the Avtex.

    Excellent thanks all, I will have a look at the Avtex and cello.

    Have the solar panel aswell so thats great the hear.

    Unless you watch TV a lot then a cheaper Cello is adequate.

    TV should be low consumption, good viewing angle and the sound reasonable – many have very small speakers that make it sound 'tinny'.

    Before you buy one make sure the TV will fit in the TV locker, if there is one, and when you're watching it doesn't 'stick out' too much where you're going to bump into it.

    Try to see them in action first maybe at a dealer. 

    A good picture is very subjective

    I got a cheap (£80) flatscreen tv from Asda about 5 years ago and a portable satellite system from Maplins.About £90) It all works very well.

    After having a couple of cheaper tv's we bought an Avtex a couple of years ago and it's brilliant compared to the others we've had. So easy to use and tune in and an excellent picture. We should have had one years ago. Highly recommended.

    Bought a a text 3 months ago it came with a free a text aerial.  The TV is excellent and the aerial is better than the motorhome one, very happy.

    I just use a USB tuner stick with my laptop, wired to the roof aerial. Works a treat, records onto the hard drive, can watch movies from a portable hard drive and great picture quality, will even run on the laptops battery for around 8 hours if there is
    no EHU.
