Help for a disabled getting into the caravan
My wife has gradually got worse with her mobilityand is now finding it extremely difficult to use the standard two step caravan step because of the weakness in her legs. I did think about a step with three steps, the lesser height between treads maybe helping. Has
anyone experienced similar problems or has any idea's?

Hi Rickg, sorry to hear your wife is struggling with the steps. Have you heard of Remap a charity which makes and adapts things for people just like your wife? I work with them and have made a 3 step with hand rail for a caravaner. They do not charge for
doing things but are happy to accept donations! Look on their website: Remap.org.uk and you will find contact details for the group in your area. Otherwise phone their head office who will put you in touch. They have around 80 groups in England and Wales.
If you are in Hertfordshire they have 2 groups.0 -
I have just rang about the lift. Guess how much:
£1950.00 plus vat!!!!!
So I will keep looking and thinking
Your wife would likely be exemp from paying VAT, Rick. Why not enquire with the company about second hand/refurbished lifts?
Great post from ABIPete - very helpful.

I have just bought the Kampa Support Handle for the Kampa Style 2 step. My wife says it has improved her ability to get in and out.

Left or right hand rails option
at £155 I do not know anything about the company.

I fitted a fiamma handle/lock bar to my caravan to stop a dog opening the door from the inside - now I am using it increasingly to help me. Personally the step with handle looks very much less secure than the one attached to the caravan - mine really can't
wobble and takes my weight without complaint.

If your door is wide enough for a wheelchair, you could get a ramp like we have for my wife. Our van is a Frystar, so was built with a wheelchair in mind.

Thank you all for your help/idea's. I think I will adapt my two step to a three step and buy the Fiamma door handle/lock. I am a little reluctant regarding the handle as I bought the caravan new only three months ago. But hey ho the wife is the most
important point here and when we come to sell it I can cover the holes with a white plastic disc or something. But first I will contact Remap as they sound very interesting. I will let you know how things go.0 -
Thanks for your reply JV. I also have heard about the electric lift but been unable to find it.
Wer'e not sure if the handle would work for us unless we were able to try one already fitted. Maybe I wil give Milenco a ring. You could well find a dealer with a preused caravan that is fitted with one of these handles, or simply ask a fellow caravanner on site; both I am sure would be pleased to let your wife "try" it. In our rallying group as we age we note they are becoming
a common feature, so must be found a help.0
