Motor movers
Hi all. Just after a bit of advice. I am looking to get a motor mover fitted to my caravan. Anybody got any experience/advice on reliability, price and ease of use. Thanks in advance.

I suspect most people will only have ever tried one make (you tend to stick with what you know). Having owned one and seen others use different makes, they seem to be very similar to operate and use. Our van came with an eight year old Enduro mover, it
still works perfectly, although we don't use it that often. The manually engaged ones all seem to need a 180 degree turn on a wheel brace type lever to engage and the remotes all seem to be very similar, line the remote up with your van and the arrows move
it as shown on the buttons. The movement with my Enduro is very smooth and controlled. i've no experience with an autoengage mover, but they are almost twice the price. I'd be cheeky and ask to watch or even have a go next time your on a site and see someone
using a mover to get on/off a pitch??0 -
It really depends on the weight of your van and what you want it to do. We have had Truma motormovers on last 3 vans two of which were twin axle. Go for the best you can afford, remember like everything in life you only get what you pay for.

We had a Powertouch Evolution fitted (free fitting) and it has proved a godsend on tight continental pitches. So far reliable,
Bear in mind that the weight if any mover will reduce your payload availability as it is attached to the chassis. Ours weighs about 30kg on a fairly small two berth van so we have to be careful not to overload. Heavier items go in the car if necessary.

I had aTruma for 9 years it was transfered twice when ichanged my caravan in the 9 years i never had a spot of trouble with it. It must be said they are not the cheapest but as said before you get what you pay for.

I have a Powertouch mover on my van, and up until last week it has been fine, although the process of engaging the motors electrically through the handset has always been very slow and laborious.
But last week at a critical moment the left hand or nearside roller refused to engage or even move towards the tyre at all.
Two dealers have told me since, that the failure of the engagement motors is a real problem with the Powertouch and one even suggested that the recommended repair is to convert the system to manual engagement.
This seems a bit extreme and actually negates my original reason for buying that system. Has anyone else suffered this problem?

Yep, same thing. I got Powr to put together the pieces to convert it to manual. It would have cost £100 for the parts. I didn't buy though as I traded the van in for a MH instead.
This is why, on several occasions, I've tried to steer people away from the auto actuation models but I'm usually shouted down.
