Sun canopy for a caravan

Hi, We have a caravan and want to purchase a sun canopy. We don't need anything fancy and definitely don't need panels, sides, etc (we already have an awning) but do want something sturdy. We would also ideally like something around 4m in width and something we can leave fixed when travelling. I don't want it fitted so need it to fit to the awning rail on the side.

A call to a caravan supplier has advised the Thule Omnistor 1200 will do all this. Before we purchase, has anyone:

1. Got a different sun canopy that fits all the above requirements  that they would recommend

2. Got the Omnistor 1200 and drive with it attached - if so, does it travel ok?

Thanks

Why not use your awning minus the front and side panels?

    It's an air so can't

Ah, that's where we are fortunate, we have a Kampa Fiesta Air Pro and all side and front panels zip out. Used only the roof section on our recent France trip.

We simply use a Fiamma caravanstore canopy.

Brilliant. Bought a 4.0mtr unit 13 years ago and use it every year in Europe. Takes less than 60 seconds to set up and about the same to put away.

We put on beginning of summer and remove and end of year. simply slides into awning rail. Van tows very well with it sitting in the rail

This looks pratically the same as the Omnistor - thank you. I'll check it out

We made a sun canopy for our van, a 'market stall' sheet of polyeurathane (ebay) sewn on to a strip of awning tape, two old tent poles and 4 guy ropes, cost less than 30 quid, weighs a couple of kilos max and works a treat.

We bought a sun canopy off EBay for £30, just needed a few extra guy ropes. It was brilliant on our recent holiday.

We took the porch awning as well for the cooler, earlier parts of the trip

thanks to all who replied - in the end we went for the Thule Omnistor 1200 at 4.25 metres width. Bought it from Jeff Bowen awnings who I would whole heartedly recommend - he was incredibly good with his advice.

All secured now on side of the van and can't wait to use it :)
