Best TV/DVD combi sets

Hi, we've returned to caravanning after a 10yr break and now looking to fill the caravan with the latest bits and pieces. Any recommendations for a suitable TV/DVD combination set, it does'nt need to be dual voltage just reliable and have a good picture.

    If you intend to take a laptop with you, there are USB TV tuner sticks to plug in then you can use the laptop as a TV. Cost about £30 and a 12v cable to plug the laptop into the caravan socket for a few more pounds.

    Works for us.

    We have a Cello tv, with built in freeview/freesat/DVD/USB port for playback and record. It's 240/12v not as expensive as the Avtex. If you are not going to be off grid then any supermarket type brand will be ok, before the Cello we had a Tecknica from Tesco
    it had built in DVD/USB/Freeview worked well (still does in the house) but we wanted one with freesat built in and 12v or we would have not bothered changing it until it stopped working.

    What's the picture like on the Cello?. I sent back an Avtex because the picture was IMHO sub standard

    We find it ok, haven't really checked out an Avtex. We use a set of mini speakers though as the OH has a hearing problem, if we turned up the sound on the tv the sound wasn't good but with the speakers the tone is much better and it means we don't have to
    have it on high.

    Think perhaps you were unlucky, Fysherman - I've just bought an Avtex 24DRS and I have to say the picture is stunning,  HD in both terrestrial and satellite on the main channels and really pleased with it.  I did try the Aldi offering of 240v/12v TV and
    satellite dish but was really disappointed with both picture quality and ease of locating satellite - so bit the bullet and went for the Avtex and haven't regretted it.

    That's good to hear. Certainly I was surprised at the picture and sound on the one I ordered.

    Saw the 18DRS in Chelston Motorhomes a week or so back and that was pretty rubbish too. Of course the guy setting it up might not have had a clue how to do it properly and this kind of thing is very subjective anyway.

    I freely admit to being fussy. I have a top of the range TV at home and a reference standard computer monitor for my Photographic hobby. Having said that, the £100 Tesco cheapie in the bedroom outperformed the Avtex I had on a side by side test.
