I had a Cobb when we were tenters. If you just want a bbq then I wouldn't recommend it, that's its least successful use imo. Its best use is as an 'oven' (cook with the lid on). It took me ages to get the hang of cooking well with it, I very nearly gave
up on it. I used to have trouble with the moat, potatoes with flecks of ash on is not pleasant!0 -
Our caravan oven works very well. Did a lovely Xmas dinner and left overs pies for Boxing Day and beyond.
The Cadac we have had for yonks works well for outdoor cooking. BBQs I tend to bugger up food on, unless a half oil drum with cinders fed for 8-10 hours, but impractical to take caravanning

I’ve used a Cobb successfully for 4 or 5 years now. I’ve cooked everything from the usual burgers and sausages to paella and pizza. I've cooked many a succulent beer can chicken with veg.
As stated above best results are with the lid on, this aids the cooking and also helps give the BBQ flavour to your food. I’ve got a cast iron smoke pot for use when I want a more smokey flavour.
If you use the cobblestone fuel it will be ready for cooking in about 10 minuets but I generally use either 6 – 7 bricketts or standard lumpwood charcoal. I’ve never had any problems cleaning it, most parts can go in the dishwasher for a good clean when
back home, and if I’m not using the moat to cook in, I line it with tinfoil so its easier to clean.I’ve used it when away in the caravan, at home, on the beach and on picnics. It’s a versatile piece of kit which I would recommend to anyone. Have a look at some videos on you tube.
