Hello all,

Firstly, my apologies if this is in the wrong section!

Secondly, this is mostly aimed at Hampshire caravanners but welcome input from anybody!!

We have a 6kg Calor Propane Gas Bottle fitted in our caravan and whilst we don't need to refill just yet, I am sure that we are not too far off needing a refill.

My question is where is the best and cheapest place to go in the Hampshire area (Basingstoke, reading, Guildford type area) for a refill!?

Also how much could you expect to spend on a refill!? I am also contemplating getting a second bottle put in the van as I couldn't think of much worse than being in an unknown area and having to frantically search for a gas supplier!!

Hope that makes sense and look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Michael.

I've already got two bottles and as one empties, I swap and then refill when convenienty. I'm the wrong end to advise of outlets.

( Actually the coast is the right end. I spent four years in exile in Tadley)

    Go Outdoors in Basingstoke, Chineham.

Or http://johnmcarterltd.co.uk just off Winchester Road

The tip in Wade Road has loads of empty bottles.

    Prices from gooutdoors:

Hi Macnholz, you could of course look at Safefill- a refillable cylinder. You can expect to pay between £22 and £24 for a replacement cylinder and if you are getting a second then the 'contract' comes into play. That's just another word for getting their
hands deeper into your pockets! Safefill cylinder is £150 but then refills say on the medium size are about £6 so depending how much gas you use depends on how fast you get your money back in saved 'hire' fees! If , like some, you only use a thimbleful of
gas every three years Safefill is not for you but if you find you are needing a couple of swaps a year, it certainly is.

Thanks for the input so far, we don't use enough gas to consider the safefill option. But will be coming up to requiring a a new bottle / refill soon enough!!

Look on Gumtree for a second hand bottle before paying a new 'rental'. Calor publish bottle and refill prices on their website.
