Hitch covers
I'm debating whether or not to buy one of these. I've found a realtively inexpensive one on ebay and wondered what the benefits and cons are.

Tracey. I presume that you are talking about a hitch lock. Make sure that your insurance company agree with the model of your choice. They may not cough up if your van is stolen if you have not fitted an approved hitch lock. (Appologies if you meant something
else).0 -
Sorry Tracie, got the wrong end of the stick. There was a similar debate on here recently. Some for, some against. My own view is that when in storage or on a pitch, the brake assembley etc. are protected from the weather. Others think that they serve no

Though I often forget to fit mine, I tend to agree with you ... they've got to offer some degree of protection from the weather

I always forget to fit mine as the wife always fits it!

Tracy, I do think you get what you pay for regarding quality.I bought what I thought was good quality but it fell to pieces within 2 years
Only ever use it during storage never when on site

We used to use a black bin bag kept on with a bungee cord when in storage - so much cheaper than buying a cover.

My dealer gives you one free when buying a caravan as it advertises his business. They normally cost £10 and my current one is 4 years old and showing no sign of wear even though it has been in continious use so hardly an expensive on cost. It keeps the
hitch lock dry which is good as the last the last thing you need is a lock jamming when you want to set off.0 -
We did buy a cheap one but it fell apart fairly quickly. We now have a better quality one which is lasti g far better. The problem with ones bought on line is you cannot check the quality and for what a decent one costs it is not worth the bother for me.
For me they do protect the plugs and hitch but also they do look better than the bare hitch.

I fit a cover because it looks neat when parked up . As far as weather protection is concerned . Its rusting and electrical corrosion that can be a problem . on the A frame .... So you drive to campsite in driving rain creating a deluge of water over the
frame from rear wheels . forcing itself into nooks and cranies . You then cover it all up with a Vinyl cover sun comes out , Condensation everywhere . Let the air (wind) get to it and it dries out .... No condensation no problems ... No Cover No Rust !0
