Mobile Broadband

A broadband dongle was advertised in a recent club mag. I've looked into this facility and am considering taking a 12 month contract with 3. The device gives broadband anywhere where there is a mobile signal. Anyone any experience of mobile broadband?  (I
am not talking about the wi fi on some club sites.)  I haven't pursued the club offer because the top up costs aren't clear and my e-mail to the firm has not been answered

    I've been with Three for a few years. Coverage outside of main towns isn't that good. There was a recent
    news story on 4G. The reason I am staying with Three is I travel to Europe quite a lot.

    I used to use a pay as you go T Mobile dongle, £2 for 24 hours access. That worked well enough not to be bothered with site WiFi. I still have it but rarely use it now that I have a pay as you go smart phone on "3s" network. That works out even cheaper for casual access but I do find myself using it more and more.

    I have used 3 for the past two seasons. Rarely have I had a problem with the signal. Last week, on a site near Northwich, I was getting 8mb download.

    I have just purchased a new 12Gb sim for £30, which I think is good value. It lasts 12 months and I find that I never use more than 1Gb per month even with both of us using our tablets for a couple of hours each day.

    I use 3 mobile and have done for the last year on their 321 PAYG tarrif.  Coverage is about the same as the rest to be honest - they all have good and bad spots.

    Be careful, most of their tarrifs don't work for mobile broadband tethering systems.

    We use the EE Osprey. Very pleased with it, have got good signal wherever we've tried it so far.

    We have a contract iPhone on O2, with a generous data allowance, that can be used as a hot spot when 3 / 4G is available. I also have a pay as you go MiFi on the 3 network. Where there is no access on O2, often 3 is OK. The 3 top up costs £15 for three gig
    and lasts a month. Normally before we go on a tour I buy a top up, which is valid for 6 months, but only activate it when other means of access fail, thus preserving my months useage. One very good thing about 3 is their coverage maps. If they show you can
    get a 3/4G signal where you are going, you usually can. Where as those on the O2 site are often over optimistic.
