Sat nav recommendation
I currently use a tomtom start 50 which is ok for the maps included, speed camera alerts etc BUT it does not save amended routes that I created to facilitate caravan towing so after modifying a route once the device is turned off or I chose a different route
the tomtom reverts to the original fastest route. Can anyone recommend a sat nav that will store routes created and not just default to fastes route. I have to add I don't want to spend mega bucks on some of the so called caravan models I see in the club magazine.

Have a look at sniper truck sat nav it has a setting for car and caravan seems quite good a little fiddley finding the settings but i'm not great at technology mine was 100 on the internet large 7 inch multi use screen dvd etc has very clear lane positions on the motorway. Was expecting to pay around 300 pounds so a good saving.

Have you thought about adding the TomTom Camper maps to your device? About £60.

Write your comments here...Hi David I haven't thought of that ,does it give the option to save modified routes as I described in OP? Also my tomtom takes ages to find the GPS signal and it's only a few week old with updated software.

No, TomTom no longer supports intinaries which would allow you to save a route set before you travel. I have found the Camper map pretty good in terms of taking you the best route. If I choose a different route from standard I find I have to make the adjustments immediately before I leave on the day of travel. You can set way marks and it will ask you if you want those included in the route calculation. You do have to be careful with way marks because you have to set them by tapping on the map and if the tap is on the other side of a dual carriageway you can find yourself going back down the same road just to get to the way mark!!! As far as GPS is concerned I find mine OK once we are moving but as you say its slow if you are sitting waiting to move. What I find useful is to select the use last destination button and that gets me started.

Thanks for such a consise reply. I've tried your solution to the gps issue but to no avail. I like the tomtom very much but do find the inabilaity to save a modified route irritating, looks like a trip to Halfords to see what
other makes have this facility.Pete

TomTom was always the enthusiasts sat nav however in recent years they have moved to make them much simpler which means they have taken away a lot of user options. They also fell out with Microsoft about using their FAT32 file system which means that updating
is more complicated and I suspect makes it more difficult for user input. The main rival to TomTom is Garmin but I don't know if they will achive what you want. Goodluck with Halfords. Sometimes you get someone who really knows their stuff but other times
you can be disappointed.David
