Water barrel filler hose
I'm looking to buy one of those kits that you use to fill your water barrel from a tap and keep it topped up - the ones with a ball valve that screws into the water barrel and has a length of hose attached.
The ones I've seen advertised all seem to come with cheap and nasty fittings and reviewers say that they leak and blow off the tap - not ideal!
Can anyone recommend one that has better fittings?

I know what you mean. I haven't a lot of experience at using this type of set-up, but I inherited the necessary kit when we bought our caravan. It (the kit not the caravan!) was plastic, and broke on first use. Because we had the opportunity to try again
a couple of times when we booked a non-CC site where the only available pitches had a water supply, I bought a new valve. In my experience, it's not necessarily the valve itself that is the issue, but the match of hose pipe and supply tap. I had to try a whole
variety of different fittings and clips to ensure it was tight enough to avoid blow-off at the tap. And, the taps one comes across don't all have same shape/size/thread. Whilst learning all this, we were lucky enough to be next to neighbours who kindly informed
me my car was enjoying an unscheduled shower! We have since used it on odd occasions not as a permanent supply, but a convenient way of refilling the barrel, by simply turning on/off the tap. It saves having to disconnect and roll the barrel to the tap. I will use it again as intended, but probably
only when having a longer stay than the usual weekends.0 -
I bought the Aquaroll kit. Here never had a problem.

We started with the Aqua roll kit and it was very good, if expensive. However, after a few years the ball valve started to not switch off and you would come back to water pouring out of the top of the barrel. They sell a refurbishment kit, but the only place
I could get it was online, and with postage it was over £10 for a few washers. As you already have the cap with the hole in, it is easier to buy a mini ball valve assembly complete from B&Q. cost about the same, but I ended up with a new valve rather than
having to hope the refurb solved the problem.0 -
We've had our aquaroll kit for about 15 years and its still going strong.
