i have a rechargeable Dyson in the caravan and the dogs have snapped the cable off the charger plug (sealed).  One wire is plain grey the other grey and white.  Is the solid grey one positive?  The unit says 5 amps on it so will fuse accordingly.

I presume the cable your are referring to is the low voltage output (22volts?) side of the plug.

Sorry, meant to add that I'd use a meter to check.  When working on bikes and cars  6v and 12v systems, and before I could afford a meter I would use  a tiny buzzer which was polarity dependant. That always found the positive! Can't stress enough though
that knowledge, confidence and respect for the dangers of electricity, even low voltage systems is of paramount importance.

Usually, the centre pin of a connector is +ve. If you have a mulimeter with a continuity function, use this - one meter lead to the centre pin, the other to one of the broken connections. The one that sounds is then also +ve. If repairing, be sure to solder
the joins and use heat shrink tubing over each join and a larger hst over both, which will give you a reliable repair

Thank you for your help folks I remembered Dysons helpline and was advised to buy the new charger as going into the mains via a standard plug might blow up the machine,  I might just risk that as it's pretty old and I have never been overly impressed that a several hour full charge gives 6 mins of suction!  It's the only Dyson I haven't loved the uprights are great.

Frank you might want to start a new topic for gas it might warn more people that there is a shortage on sites.  Thank goodness for Safefill say I especially after landing the cooks job for 7 yesterday!
