Sorry they do try to give a balanced view. The problem as I see it is they give so little space to the tests that many are just too short and possibly running it over two months or so would give them more space to do it justice.

I just wish, if they are going to have an app for the magazine, they make an effort to get it online at least as early as the first paper copies sent. This is clearly not happening.

Just opened October's Magazine this morning, put all the accompanying detritus straight into the recycle bin and had a read at the summary at the end of the uninspiring  Towcar of the year booklet.

It was noticed that this year one of the important summary categories has been left out.   They are not telling if the cars in the survey had run flat tyres, or a proper spare wheel, or a skinny spare wheel or just a can of gunk to use in the event to a puncture or blowout.

Runflats aside, I would never buy any car which was not equipped with a spare wheel for either solo use or towing.

Strange the CC decided not to publish this info.

Have not opened the advertising catalogue ( Magazine ) yet !!

    Smile

    Write your comments here...maybe they

were not paid to do so,,,,,, being purely cynical of course.........

I am afraid not accepting a car without a spare is getting to be a problem. The alternative is just buy a spare and carry it in the car.

It wouldn't be if everybody refused to buy new cars without them. The manufacturers would soon change.

Cost of the spare wheel isn't the only driver for manufactures not to include them. Weight comes into play when assessing the emissions. More weight the higher the emissions which can result in higher tax bracket. May be best to add one after if required.
    Just a thought !!!!!!

I dopubt that the difference in weight between a space saver and a propper spare wheel will have too much effect on emissions. As far as I am concerned a can of spray goo does not cut it for me

I doubt  a space saver makes any real difference to emissions but the cost against an alloy wheel and full size tyre on thousands of cars will add up. A spacesaver being steel might

in fact be heavier than an alloy but I have never checked.

As well as being full of adverts the November magazine has given out misleading information. -- On the article on pages 87 and 88 the CC has referred to the Caravan Club site at Braemar.

There is no CC site in Braemar -- There used to be, but the CC disposed of it and it is now a commercial site.

The magazine article is incorrect and could lead to disappointment for CC members travelling to Braemar and unable to find any CC campsite site.

    Surprised

I think that you might find that it is now an Affiliated Site as the details are still on search and book with prices for CC members

Yes I clocked that too. Why couldn't they say it was affiliated?

I'm still not convinced photo on Peterborough walk page is Peterborough, my recollection is of no grass outside. I'll check this when ext there. (I did post to that effect on here, I think it's Ely, but someone said it wasn't)

One interesting letter on the letters pages ( Pitch Pilfered) where a Motor Caravanner went out for the day and left personal items on the pitch, only to return and find that somebody in a caravan had pinched the pitch.

How can this happen if the warden is up to the job. They know which pitches are occupied and when the new arrival came into the office to say which pitch they had chosen the Warden should have told them that the pitch was already taken by a motorhome.

When the Motorcararavanner reported to the warden that somebody had taken their pitch, why did the warden not correct the mistake, Instead the Motorcaravanner was told by the warden to find another pitch.

Very poor customer service by the CC.representative Surprised

I do hope that this has been reported to head office by the motorhomer. Smile

ps - I actually took the time to look through the magazine this month to find why all the posters on here think it is so wonderful. Sorry folks I cannot agree, I won't be doing it again. Cool

The guy had left a dog leas on the pitch Roll Eyes. The 'errant caravanner might well have parked, set up an awming and gone bacj=k to book in. If I were the warden I would
not have said 'you will have to move as somebody is using that pitch. Did you not see the red dog lead in the grass' ROFL

i generally agree that the magazine is not very good but this month IMHO it has plumbed new depths. Two articles on touring in Scotland, slightly misleading information about Braemar, a  crossword that took 8 minutes with some very dubious answers, reviews
of car, caravan and motorhome well outside my budget and a comparison of members views which had only one model for comparison.

Must admit I rarely even take the plastic cover off the magazine but as a member for the best part of 30 years a lot of what is in the magazine has little appeal to me now especially as I have no interest in upgrading my caravan and I have read all the reviews of different parts of the country several times in the past.

But hey, a lot of members are no doubt more recent and probably look forward to their monthly mag. It doesn't cost the club as it's paid for by adverts for all those accessories I don't want  either!

What many of the posts miss about the magazine is that even if you are not interested in most of what it contains there is always news items about changes to how things are done, sites being closed for refurbishment, CL's new to the network and those that
leave. Where do people find this information if they don't at least scan through the magazine or do they rely on Serendipity?

But how do you know of any new CLs that have just come on line in an area that you might be interested in visiting? As has been said before they appear in the magazine before coming onto the web site.

Well you should give them a try. Plenty about that would have all you require in facilities. You do use Non-facility sites sometimes, don't you? There just big CL's really.Wink

Cl's are the "Jewel in the Crown" of the CC retail organisation. Many customers pay their annual subscription to the CC just so they can access that wonderful CL network.

Best to always phone the CL direct with any enquiries. The owners will only be too happy to give you whatever information you require.
