Having a tidy around and decided to flick through the August mag with a cuppa before binning it...got to the ask your club page, are these questions made up?? I can not believe somebody ( well actually 2 people) have written in their " burning question"
on " how do I remember which side my fuel cap is on"REALLY....should these people even be driving if they can not remember which side their fuel cap is on....it beggars belief, they must be made up surely.

You don't even have to remeber. There's an arrow on the fuel guage.

Darwinism in action? Those who can't remember on which side of the pump they need to park (or need to write to someone moaning about it) are presumably naturally selected to run out of fuel and thus can't get onto the road to trouble any semi-sentient

Many years ago, I learned how to work out which side has the fuel cap by asking someone with more experience. I had to ask how to determine whether the hire cars [used a lot of them] were diesel or petrol if it wasn't marked on the filler cap.

Is it relevant? I pick the pump that is empty. The hoses usually reach if you pull up properly. If towing the van, I just have to be careful I don't trip over the stabiliser/handbrake and inadvertantly spray the front of the van with fuel.

Neither of ours has an arrow to point out which side it's on.
But I just use whichever pump / side is empty.
What is this obsession with having to stop on a certain side? I see people waiting for ages for a particular side and just drive past them to the first available.

I can remember that the filler is on the driver's side on my car. With the OH's car, I activate the remote filler release and can then see it sticking out in the wing mirrors to remind me. Like Ian, I pick the first empty pump. A bit like choosing pitches.

Its a bit different on a motorhome, you would never reach if you went to a pump on the wrong side, and to complicate it further, we have the diesel filler on the nearside and the gas filler on the offside. Strangely I manage to remember...

You have to be close to pump with LPG, as you have to lean on button for it to work! Just saying.....

Write your comments here...doesnt work with a motorhome unfortunately, you have to pick a pump on the correct side, when i first got it, i did like you, and had to drive around again.

On another thread were told that people exceeding 5mph on CC sites are "idiots" which seems a little exagerated to me, but no such description has been applied to people who can't remember which side their fuel cap is on. Thank goodness. Tolerance, tolerance,

If it doesn't have an arrow you will probably find the little picture of a pump shows the nozzle on the side where the cap is.

Just as long as one is careful not to drive into the pump, while looking for the little arrow or picture. They are very small on our cars. I must admit to having to think twice, as our two cars have them on different sides and it is easy to get mixed up.
Especially now we are retired and unless touring a tank can last well over a month.0 -

Doesn't seem to be exaggerated to to me (and I didnt make the 'idiots' comment) exceeding the speed limit could be harmfull, even fatal, not knowing where to put your nozzle (!) wouldnt actually cause anyone any harm, only amusement.

i saw a test the other day which was of a Sevel based auto Sleepers PVC....now, we all know (millions of us) that the Sevel fuel tank filler is on the UK nearside (left).
those clever folk at AS thought it would be useful (and it is) to install an underslung LPG tank thus dispensing with a locker and bottles....great!
so, where do they put the LPG filler?.....of course, on the opposite side of the van.....DOH!
