CLOSED - Lewd behaviour Tredegar Site shower block
During a recent visit to Tredegar site, I noticed that Holes have been drilled between the male shower cubicles. These have been deliberately positioned to enable lewd behaviour and with the intent of Voyeurism. I have since learnt that this has been an
on going problem for at least five years. Don't not allow your children to go to the shower blocks on their own. I reported to the wardens and to the CC head office. But feel that no one is taking this seriously. I,m not sure what to do next to escalate
the problem ? Any suggestions?

M/Mike, contact the Police. It could be a 'child protection' issue, no ifs or buts it needs investigating. It goes beyond informing local organisations. You can then rest easy knowing you have done as much as you can.

As there is a suggestion of a possible child protection issue, I've reported this to HO requesting that it be brought to the urgent attention of the Sites Team to investigate.

Spot on Jill, anything with safeguarding (as child protection is called in schools) should be acted upon straight away even if there is no actual danger, better to be safe than sorry.
It would be interesting to know what the wardens said in reply, and who drilled these holes and when? If they have been there five years it would mean the same people have been using them that long?

Yes, tell the Police. They might get more action from CC than us.
Well done, Jill, for acting promptly.

The CC never sease to amaze me , if i post something contraversial i get "the warning E-mail", but a member has made a serious allegation against a site and it seems that HO do 1 of 2 things
1, run round like headless chickens
2, bury their head in the sand
Why should it be down to members to prod the Club in to action???

To right, as others have said take it further. I've not come across this in the UK but recently while on one of our favourite sites in France, they have refurbed the shower blocks. They are now Unisex, now i don't have a problem with that but one day while
having a shower I noticed a reflection in the mirror (it was a shower and sink cubicle) the way the door sits there is a sizable gap, through this gap you can look into the mirror and then see into the shower, luckily I was quite quick in throwing my towel
over the edge of the door to block the gap. It did make me feel very uncomfortable about using that cubicle again.0 -
On thinkig about this situation as reported by the OP. The obvious question must be, as the warden staff are supposed to clean the showers daily, why have they not 1 noticed the holes and 2 why have they not done something to ensure privacy. for those using the showers.
Is there something sinister going on ? .
I would hesitate to elaborate but we all read the news and what can happen in public shower blocks and lavatories.

Hi everyone,
Just to let you know I've flagged this up with Sites Operations, I will let you know any information as soon as I have it.
Thanks

The holes have been filled in before with a waterproof sealant last year, so it's wrong to jump to conclusions.
In addtion no complaints were raised last year either. Had there been, they would have been addressed.
I suggest you ring Head Office and ask to get in contact with the Regional Manager.
I assure you that the club would not take such a matter lightly, buy "burying their head in the sand".

I beg to differ Kubota, they constantly bury their heads, or that is the impression that is given on this forum

Very pleased to read this. Let's hope there is some prompt action and response. This often isn't the case

The Wardens at Tredegar House have informed me that they are aware of the holes referred to in this thread. They are situated in one of the panels in one of the showers and have been there for a number of years, caused by a hole being drilled for shower fittings in the wrong place. The holes are filled and the Wardens check them every day as part of their routine toilet cleaning duties. Should the filling become displaced, the holes are refilled. There have been no reported incidents over the years in regard to these holes.
If you have concerns whilst on site, please talk to the Site Staff.
Thank you

It does sound as though the OP has jumped to the wrong conclusion here but I would have thought the wardens could have explained the problem at the time.
I have been to the site as our daughter lives nearby but never used the showerblock but the wardens seemed very good so I am surprised that a problem arose.

Or at least a cheaper solution that may appeal more to the Club's accountants of a "patch" screwed and glued to well cover the hole.
However, whoever drilled the hole in the wrong place initially should have financed replacing the panel. That is what "management" should have been doing.

I just have to say that (as someone with significant amount of training and dealing with safeguarding issues) this thread has highlighted one of the problem in dealing with such matters - everyone assumes the worst. I am not saying the OP was wrong to bring this to the club's attention, far from it, but a hole went from a being a hole into something lewd and sinister with no real evidence (apart from a hole) with possibly campers and staff tainted.
If a matter is reported (as as I said it's better safe than sorry so anything should be reported) it must be investigated but the main rule is to gather information without any bias or assumptions and then if there is a case to warrant further investigation then give the matter over to the proper authorities. Cetainly school procedures follow this approach.

Write your comments here...I think the quote from the op where he says " I reported to the wardens and to the CC head office. But feel that no one is taking this seriously I,m not sure what to do next to escalate the problem ? Any suggestions?"" sums up why such issues do take wings, and can cause concern when discussed on this forum.

Sometimes a speedy verbal communication rather than considered thought will be more important in preventing an incident. Hopefully the rather strongly worded title, whether it's right or wrong will finally bring about the proper repair/replacement
of this damaged shower cubicle.0 -
The OP has said "it" has been going on for the last five years but we were there last year and the year before and I did not notice any holes, repairs or patches.
so who do we believe?

Good point K, if the OP had decided to ignore their initial concerns then later found out an incident occurred that they may have helped stop it would be a hard thing to live with for anyone. I would always follow my conscience for the good of myself & anyone
in harms way. If it proves to be a false alarm then so be it. No one should ever be chastised for caring about others safety.0
