How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

At this time of year and with the unusual weather - I would say the booking system of the CC is a far better option - being able to cancel a booking - although I suppose since its winter and there could be availability. I haven't had a lot of luck finding
well priced CLs open where I want to go.0 -
I did ask before, does anyone now what proportion of C&CC members have taken up the reduced online membership option?
I don't know what the current take up is but initally it was less than 20 percent of members. I think it is now in the second year of its introduction so probably higher now. I took the lower cost option because I don't use its services that much but this year I hope I can use it more.

The C&CC system of advertising its rallies and Temporary Holiday Sites is much more user friendly than the CC system. Living in Scotland the CC rally book covers all Scottish centres, but it is too time consuming to trawl through all the centre websites
to find rallies in areas I'm just visiting. Using the C&CC magazine is much easier. Last year I saved many times my sub by going on THSs for around £7 a night in the main holiday season.Online membership does not interest me as I like to have the sites book and the magazine to browse through for sites and THSs. As people can change their membership between online and paper from year to year I suspect that some will go for online for a couple
of years and then switch back to get a new Sites Book. After that they will go back to online again.0 -
one difference i discovered today.....the CCC late departure time is 5pm, so really useful, effectively another days holiday...

The "leaving time" isn't 5 pm, it's noon. But you can ask for a later stay as you obviously did. And at this time of year you can almost certainly do like wise at CC sites - it's no big difference. Try asking in high season though !

Well done the forum manager !! There is no need for arguments on a forum like this.
Now thankfully, those among us who like to keep the postings friendly can return to the thread.
There is IMO, no appreciable difference between the CC and the C&CC. Both provide camping places of a good quality.
The only observable difference is in the average age of the customers of the two organisations, with the C&CC catering for the full spectrum of ages and the CC catering mainly for the retired fraternity.
That aside, I would recomment membership of both organisations.

Setthorns is a terific site. >snip< If you don't need EHU, plenty of very nice standard pitches at excellent price.
Yes I had noticed that they are hardstand as well! I don't think the CC has one single hardstanding none electric pitch even including the late arrivals or ferry pitch areas.

....a useful difference though......one that we shall make use of later, probably.
an hour gained (well five really) is always worth having.

It is certainly nice that it is available as an option if we had problems, but personally we would never use it. We either want to be on our way to the next site, to get set up, or on our way home to get the van put away in storage. Of course we are retired
and I can see it would be useful to someone wanting to maximise a weekend. Although even then we never used the facility, as again we needed to get home and secure the van in storage, prior to work the next day.0 -
steve, as we dont have to get involved with storage, we have just made use of 4 hrs of sunshine, cycling down close to Romsey.....really pleasant.
just had a late relaxing lunch/coffee prior to thinking about the hour plus drive home.
so, in effect, an extra day.....weather still wonderful (after the rest of the week).....should we stay another day....?

I think the CCC is great for tent camping but I think the Caravan Club caters better for caravanners.

Have to agree Malc, and some private sites are smashing for both!

That is one real difference between the two main Clubs actually, both allow camping, but on the CC sites where camping is allowed, the camping area has always been a very long way from the facility blocks! (Leyburn, Wincanton, Tredegar House, as examples)
Makes for a very interesting dash unless you have your own facilities in a toilet tent!0 -
" ...so, in effect, an extra day.....weather still wonderful (after the rest of the week).....should we stay another day....? "
With such glorious weather I'd stay an extra day as there's no need to pay for EHU.please, take what you wish....
members can stay late whichever pitch they are on, and some have done so...
flexibility is not pitch type dependant....

Do I take it then, by the way you swerved the question, that you were on an EHU pitch, even though you had the option of non EHU? Nothing wrong with that, mind, it's exactly what I would do!
