Freelander 2 only 2 wheel drive
HI I was looking at a 2009 freelander 2 td4 e 2.2 but have just learnt that the "e" denotes that it is only a 2 wheel drive version has anyone got any experience of this version as I thought that all freelanders were 4wd,
I wanted to upgrade to bigger car with 4wd as i have just bought a coachman pastiche and tow with a bmw 520d I have not had a problem but just for peace of mind want a bigger car and have had BMW's for 15 years and just wanted to try a different marque I
would be grateful if anyone has any experience of 2 wheel drive freelanders many thanks

My OH says walk away! We had a F1, had to take off rear prop shaft as viscous coupling was a nightmare. As a two wheel drive it was utter pants, not worth having. Get a proper F2 4x4, proven tow car, very popular. Can't think why LR make a 2 wheel drive

There made to keep CO figures down, my own feeling is that it might not be that bad at all unless you need the extra drive, my own Ford ranger very, very rarely needs 4 x 4, more times than not it's the added ground clearance that matters in my experience

The 'e' does NOT denote 2wd, it refers to what was then the new stop -start equipped models, i had one. The 2wd version did not appear until quite late in the life of the FL2 and after they introduced the SD4 engines alongside the TD4 unit. Personally i
would stick with your Beemer, after running a German marque you will find the quality of the fit and finish of the FL a disappointment. The FL2 is a great tow car but on grounds of quality i couldn't wait to get back to an Audi.0 -

I got rid of a BMW 320d when I got my Freelander 2 a few years back. I didn't find the fit and finish, or reliability, any worse than the beemer and in other respects (not least towing) it was better. (The beemer did have a nice engine though :-)

I would love to have another L/R product, my son is on his second Range Rover Sport and has an Evoque too, all of which are fine cars and reasonably reliable. Maybe when the Disco Sport reaches my budget on the used car market I will take another look. However
my FL2 broke down twice in the space of 2 weeks whilst in Europe and on the second occasion the L/R dealers both in France and the UK were utterly useless and unable to deal with a problem my local independent specialist sorted out in 30mins......0 -
We now have a Discovery Sport but previously had a Freelander 2 for over 5 years and towed extensively, first a Bailey Olympus and then Unicorn series 3. We swapped from an E class Mercedes and never regretted it. Superb tow car and very comfortable. Only
downside was size of boot (which has been addressed in the Discovery Sport)0
