SadWoke up this morning to find that some "Dogbreath " had helped himself to the headlights from my car. In the hands of the insurance at the moment but it's so annoying we were down to go away this weekend but unable to get things started till Thursday and i don't think it will be done in a day. For any owners out there that don't want the same thing to happen, found a company (Jaw Engineering) that make a fitting that might be of use.

It's so frustrating that headlights can be easily removed from a car, presumably with the bonnet still closed. Fittings are usually more inaccessable than that

That does seem to be quite a mark up on a few feet of stainless bar!

If you inform the insurance company and explain the case and take photos, you might be able to authorise replacements yourself then argue the case afterwards? If they haven't damaged anything there should be no reason headlights can't be fitted in the day

Write your comments here...Hi MM if you mean the mark up on the bar that keeps the light in position, then yes but at nearly £400 each it looks quite cheap.OK i don't have to pay the full amount but my excess is £350 so the mark up dosen't seem so excessiveWorried

Write your comments here...Hi MH4 the insurance will not allow me to repair it myself and if i was to go ahead and buy them off e-bay and do it myself then i wouldn't be sure i wasn't buying my own.Having been on LR forums the lights can be removed in less
than 12sec for both. All you can do is try to put as many deterents in the way as you can (afford).

and that's what the manufactures are hoping you'll think Wink

£400 for a headlight isn't that much these days (NB I don't condone the price) but I was quoted £300 each years ago (15yr?) for a headlight for my Senator and a lad at work was recently quoted £1000 each for his Audi A6 ....admittedly that was fitted

Have you tried asking the insurance if you can get a garage to repair? keep the invoice and as long it it's reasonablely priced, if you've a police number and no damage? usually there's a way round rather than missing holiday?

The Discovery 2 model is now quite a few years old and there are a number of them laid up or undergoing long term restoration.  Do you not know anyone with such a vehicle that might lend you a pair of headlights for you holidays?

Pity it is not a D3 as I've a set for one of them sitting here!

When I was about to buy a used Disco2, there were two available that I liked the look of. One had the old style headlamps and the other was the facelift type. At the time the facelift h/lamps were being stolen quite regularly in my area which made my mind
up .. Old style for me.

Disco 2 is the same as TD5, I had two before I purchased a Disco 3 which is the best car I have ever driven/owned.

What do I need to prove SS? I'm intrigued!!!

Its not just LR lights being liberated from their owners....there are many Audi derivative headlights being stolen to fuel the ever increasing popularity of VeeDub Transporter conversions/pimping etc....Audi R8 lightset drops straight in....

Write your comments here...Hi JW sorry for not getting back to you but i've been in the sticks for a week. You may not have to prove anything has it was entered as a joke. When i bought my first 300 the salesman said buying a land rover was proof in saying
you had reached that point in life. I said to me it is proof, yes proof i couldn't afford a Range Rover. Not saying that you got the Disco 3 because you couldn't afford the 4.WinkingYou
must admit that the 3 compared to the TD5 looked like it had been on steroids!! Hope this clears the air.

Write your comments here...Hi Tj you can't keep anything there is always a market for it.I blame fleabay people that fenced stolen goods usedd to get put away for a couple of years.I wouldn't like to pay for the replacement lights for a R8.
