Towing with a Jeep. Does any one else?
Hi all
My towcar, a Ford Kuga which has towed our 2016 swift corniche and previously Fleetwood Colchester effortlessly through Europe, England and Scotland on numerous occasions met with an untimely end last week when I was rear ended by a coach which has totalled the car.
Our replacement will take a while but I do have a 2005 3 litre auto Jeep Grand Cherokee.
I have never towed with this car so I have had the towbar and electrics inspected and as it transpired, replaced.
My wife and I are off to the NEC motorhome and caravan show next month for 3 nights then off to Whitby for a week.
I know the combination and car are well within the limits but what are people's experience of towing with a Jeep?
thanks in advance

I have towed caravans and heavy boats with Jeeps (Cerokee & Grand Cherokee both autos). My daughter used one for pulling her digger on a 4 wheel flat bed trailer. Never had any problems but can't compare because always used Jeeps. I don't see the need to

I tow with a 2003 2.7 Grand Cherokee and have to say it's perfect. Never misses a beat and is rock solid. On motorways you just hit cruise and let it do its stuff. Have towed up blue bank at Whitby with relative ease.

And I was behind you in my Kuga shouting "Get a move on bro!" Nice to see you on here!!

We have had all sorts of Jeeps! 4 litre Cherokee automatic, dual fuelled LPG, perfect towing vehicle, powerful and smooth. Wrangler TJ 4 litre petrol, now dual fuel LPG, again awesome, still use this daily, for towing and solo use. Had Grand Cherokee, again
fast comfy vehicle well up to towing big weights. Recent purchase is Wrangler JK automatic, we haven't towed yet with this but expect it to be as good as others. We did get some slight pitching using TJ, but then again our SWB LR Defender pitched slightly
as well. In our opinion, Jeeps are very good cars, have proven very reliable and robust. You can get all sorts of extras for them from States. Plenty of oomph when you need it, great comfort level and plenty of onboard extras. You seem to get more for your
money than with a LR. Wranglers hold their price well. Hope this helps.0 -
I must say, towing with the Jeep was a dream. The towing was effortless and even the mileage was not that bad.
I obtain 22mph around town and towing on the motorway got me 20-21 mph.
I think I will use the Jeep for towing around UK but use the new car, when it comes to travelling abroad purely for mileage reasons

If you like the Jeep, and enjoy towing with it, why not consider dual fuelling it to LPG? We have done this with two of our Jeeps and get double mileage per £ spent on fuel. No performance issues, had it done locally both times. Tank fits underneath, no
loss of boot space.0 -
Must say, I'm a bit surprised that you were using the Kuga with a Grand Cherokee sat at home!
We had one of the original Grand Cherokees and that was good, but the newer ones look much better.
Hi Ian,
the Kuga met with an untimely end thanks to a National Express coach Which is why I have had to use the Jeep.
Fortunately the caravan was in storage and wife and dogs at home so there was only me hospitalised.
