Hi Kuga, I have a 2012 XF, the 2.2D saloon. I towed our Swift Sprite 4FB around France with it a couple of years ago with no problems at all. That was at approx 80% tow but we had 3 in the car and the dog. In all the times I towed the van I never had a
problem with it. Great acceleration, steady on the back at all times and excellent gear control form the 8 speed auto box.I ave around 50 mpg on a long run and on our French trip towing I averaged around 29 mpg but that wasn't hanging around either. Tax is £145 a year. Insurance is reasonable in my opinion. For winter driving I got a spare set of rims and fitted them with winter
tyres so I just swop them over around Nov time. Again, I've never had a problem in the snow but I do have the right tyres for the job. It's a fantastic car, I love mine and intend to keep it even though we've now changed back to a motorhome for camping. I purchased mine from Stratstone at Houghton-le-Spring on the A690. I also have it serviced there. I got a good trade in and I've been
happy with the service so far for servicing. My detachable tow bar was fitted by Hedleys at Durham who, as normal, did a very neat job for a great price.i wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I would like a 3ltr just for the fun of it but the boss keeps on saying no Maybe next time!

Whether it works or not, will still depend on your right foot. All my auto Vauxhalls, & SWMBO's C3 have had a snow setting which just sets the car off in 2nd or 3rd gear, if you bury your foot though, it'll stll lose traction, and being RWD will possibly
have you facing where you've just been.Re engine size ....big is best, bigger is better. And you should always have more cylinders than doors

If you want winter traction then you need to invest in winter tyres, the snow setting is all but meaningless. Even a 4x4 on the wrong tyres will get stuck. I tend to agree with MM albeit the 2.2 will be powerful enough in practice it is an old crude design made by Ford originally for the Transit. Go for the estate and if possible thr V6 with a slushmatic grarbox.... ;-) The problem might be low nose weight for such a big car which rules it out for me :-(

MM - you haven't seen the Boss!!
To be fair one of the reasons I considered the 2.2 was the fact it was a tried and tested engine in the Transit. It has good pulling power and seems reliable. The fact is any RWD isn't going to be great in the snow, look at how many BMW's get stuck in winter,
that's why I invested in the correct rubber for the conditions. I just love the fact that each time I drive the car it puts a smile on my face0 -
Hi Kuga, I tow with a Jag mines one of the last "s" types which was the model "xf" took over from I also tow a bailey Senator oklahoma, the only down side is the 75 kg nose weight which is the same accross the line, but that said fabulous tow car, bags of
power and 28 mpg over all when towing thats with the 2.7 V6 twin turbo diesel, go for it, great cars0 -

I have a 3L Sportbrake 2014, I was very disappointed when I heard Jaguar have stopped production of it, as I'll have to keep this one longer than I normally keep cars. In my opinion it's the best car I've had, and that list includes E class and C class
Mercs, an Audi A6 a Lexus and a couple of Volvos. We toured France with an Elddis Afinity 530 behind and it was a very comfortable experience. Cruise on at 60 and let the car take the strain, 30mpg towing and 50mpg solo if you're interested. The main feature of the car for me is it's refinement, the cabin
is a comfortable hushed space and if you floor the throttle the push in the back tells you the engine is doing it's thing, the noise level hardly increases.I've had the car two winters and it's only seen snow and ice a couple of times, our road is sometimes a pig to get up but the Jag was no worse than other cars I've had.
I test drove the 2.2D for 24hours and it was fine, but the V6 is noticeably better. The Sportbrake isn't an out and out estate car, if you need that get a V70, but it does swallow a good load and we have had it rammed a few times and the self levelling suspension
works a treat.0 -
just purchased a 2015 Sportbrake 2.2d 200ps i have not towed with it yet as my caravan locked away for the winter.
Tax £130 a year is very quiet to drive and very comfortable it is also quiet quick when you wan it to be, I am trying to find towing review for sportbrake 2.2D the sportbrake 3.0 does really well towing from towing reviews i found using google.
