Hi all. I'm after some advice. Recently purchased a swift freestyle s s6td. so fairly new to the towing business. Currently towing with a 2009 VW Passat estate 2l TDI.  mostly stable but have noticed a bit of swaying when at 60mph on a motorway when large
vans in particular go past. So looking to replace with a Audi Q5 3l tdi. Dose any one own and tow with one? I'm hoping it will be more stable on motorways. Also dose anyone now of any common problems to look out for?

Thanks

We tow with a 2 litre TDI Q5. We have in the past towed with a Audi 80 Sport weighing just 1087 kg. Both were affected by large vehicles passing and you could end up dissapointed if your expectation is that a heavier tow car will stop this-it will reduce
the effect, due to the increased weight of the tow car,but cannot stop it.

By the way we love our Q5 and it's a great towcar.

Thanks for the reply. I understand you will propebly never full stop the effect but surly a heavier tow car should reduce the effect. I just want to make the towing experience as pleasurable as possible.

Hi, As I said it will reduce but can never eliminate and my expierience has been that you always know you have the van on the back. I drive app 2000 miles a month and the car I choose will never be due to its towing ability alone.

Tow a Swift Conqueror 645 with a 3l Q5, superb and well planted. It has the adoptive suspension which helps stiffen everything up, but this can be annoying when solo.

Even does 25-30 mpg towing this 1600+ kg caravan.
