    So come on ...... what was the top tip? Surprised

    (my guess is to wind it nearly down when you can get at it, then lift the front on the jockey wheel till the steady is grounded when the caravan is in position Kiss)

    Standing up- I'd noticed. There's another thread on CT questioning the use of a drill to lower/ raise corner steadies. We were glad of ours, saving backs and legs yesterday when we arrived for a short break. You can book a flight in a 2 seat Spitfire, here
    at Sywell £2,500 for a 20 minute flight If bored with Caravanning. No response from Alko yet.

    If you, look on the website you will see that the Spitfire flights are fully booked for 2016. Someone has got money!!

    I recently flew from Sywell in a Tiger Moth (as passenger) and flew over my own house, it was great fun.

    IIRC it was £2000 at Duxford last year. Either inflation has hit or they are charging for the fuel to Sywell

    We are going off topic I know. There is a 2 seat Spitfire based at Sywell and a new hanger has been built especially for it.

    £2k or £2.5k is too much for me but if I had the money I think it would be an unforgettable ride.

    The Spitfires seem to be operating from Sywell and Headcorn now. The Sywell one used to be based at an ex USAF base at Bentwaters, Suffolk near me, but local people, living in ex USAF married quarters complained about the noise. Meanwhile I've quietly contacted
    Alko again and my query has been passed onto their quality manager.

    So people have moved into an airbase and are now complaining about aircraft noise? Are they stupid?

    Air bases are often retired only to be re-instated later for many reasons.

    Shame those spits are not fully armed.Innocent

    Well, Bentwaters has been decommissioned from the military and the assets sold into the public sector. There has been some light aircraft activity since but there's been strong opposition to commercial use because of access limitations. Nearby Woodbridge
    airfield remains under military control. I made a precautionary landing there once. Meanwhile Alko are maintaining a precautionary silence. A difficult question for them I guess. PS Sywell weather was awful.

    Ex aviator I'm afraid, due to increasingly difficult medicals.but I flew for nearly 25 years. I occasionally visit Cambridge to fly a fully aerobatic Walter Extra with an instructor. 40 mins is a long time in something that manoeuvrable.

    The last proper aerobatics I did was in a RAF Chipmunk and that was a very long time ago.

    I've had a repeated and rather drawn out correspondence with Alko, which is ongoing. I've been asked various questions re misuse and replied that these instances havent occurred. Alko tell me that they have no plans to shorten fixed attachment breakaway
    cables but haven't yet responded regarding the point that they are still delivering chassis with towball loop clips 15 years after towbar standards requiring fixed attachment points were introduced. Despite the willing help of Phil Wiggins, their customer
    support contact, his referrals to their quality manager indicate some unwillingness to acknowledge Alko's incompatibility issues. I've still got the name of Alko's CEO as a last resort if the quality manager doesn't listen properly. I didn't ever believe that
    this would be a quick process, and it isn't.
