I have a 2014 Kia Sorento with a built-in satnav. I have read on Kia websites that Kia is offering free yearly upgrades for 7 years in line with thèir general warranty. When booking the car in for service I asked for the upgrade to be done but was told that
Kia have not yet issued any update despite putting details on their website in 2013 promising free upgrades on all Kias. I would be keen to hear from other Kia Sorento owners if they have faced similar issues.

Have a look at the threads on this forum

    http://www.kiaownersclub.co.uk/forum/

The free upgrade is only for continental Europe. We are not considered to be in continental Europe so have to pay!

However there definitely is an upgrade available, as indicated in the threads, which costs £25. Despite KIA customer service saying that all dealer's should be aware of the upgrade it appears that they are not. As you have found!

After the upgrade some posts indicate that their system now has Android Auto. However my 2016 Sorento still doesn't have that facility despite having the map and OS upgrade at a recent service.

Thanks for the details Simon100. It would appear that Kia were into Brexit before we were! When I spoke to the dealer I was told that when an update became available Kia would contact me via the official recall system. This seemed highly unlikely but it
is an indication of the mess that Kia have got into re updating procedures. In general, how reliable do you find your built-in satnav to be. I have had a number of recent problems which seem more to do with software rather than being out of date re roads.

Check that your system is eligible for a map upgrade by contacting KIA customer care. I have always found them to be really helpful and they seem to want to know what there dealer's are up to with regard the map upgrade. Nowhere has it ever been intimated
that the map update would be via a recall. It is up to the owner to request it of the dealer.

I have not had any problems with the Sat Nav, but there are a number of versions, depending on the agree of your car and the model. Mines a KX4. I have had some issues with the infotainment system however: DAB not working at times and some functionality
    missing with my phone connection.

    What issues have you had?

Just booked my 2014 kia sorento in for a service. I mentioned the free upgrade for my satnav which is stated on the website. They said there is a 25 pound charge for the update.

Thanks to both of you. Armed with your information I will go back to the dealer, at a higher level than the genral receptionist. Simon, my car is a KX2. Everything works well apart from occasional crazy glitches during navigation eg making junction changes
for no apparènt reason during a journey and ignoring obvious optimal routes at the route selection stage.

My understanding is that the maps used are Here maps. They were originally a Nokia product and have recently been bought by a consortium of auto makers.

There have been threads that Kia are moving to TomTom but as far as I am aware my maps are still based on Here even after the upgrade.

It could be that the Here routing algorithm is not as effective as you have been used to.
