hi guys n gals

i am looking at changing our towcar very soon i currently have a mondeo 2.0 tdci 10 plate the options are as follows

08/09 honda crv 2.2 diesel ex model

12/13 mondeo titanium hatch 2.0tdci

i like both the cars stated just wondered of opinions on both  will be towing a 1300kg mtplm van so well within both cars reach and both within 85% ratio

your opinions on both cars much appreceated

    tow my caravan mtplm 1,318kg with a Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0TDi 4x4 (2012). Plenty of load /carry space in the rear, 33-37mpg towing, good torque and pulling power, extra grip on muddy fields and very stable (88% tow ratio). Just a thought.

    Undecided , I have heard it said that any vehicle with a DUAL MASS clutch ,does'nt survive much towing !! Surprised.Beware

    We have had similar discussions before I.e. Honda cr- v versus Ford Kuga.

    I run a Honda - 11 plate with 132k on clock still on original clutch /dual mass flywheel. 

    Pulls like a train and returns 27/ 30 towing depending how many hills I have on each trip. Returns 38/40 solo

    I should be expecting clutch replacement soon but so far showing no sign - depends largely on use of left foot!!

    Given that just about all diesels have a DMF that wouldn't leave much choice would it?! Beware of 'heard it said' stories..... However given the OP is looking at a 4wd SUV and a fwd (htatch/estate) it leaves a very wide field open for suggestions. And please
    stop getting hung up on 85%......  IT ISN'T A LEGAL REQUIREMENT!!

    yes i understand about the 85% rule but with some outfits i have seen on the motorway n the last few weeks i would like to stay below it + i have licence restrictions only having 3500kg (b) grade licence i wont go much over it with the 2 cars i have chosen.
    the DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL thing doesnt bother me my mondeo now has one 100k milage with a fair bit of towing miles under its belt over the last 3 years with no issues at all if it goes it goes even some deisel autos now have dual mass flywheels so doesnt matter
    what you go for you coud have problems.
