Buying a convertable for towing
We are retiring and are looking to trade in our tow car and my wifes convertable and go down to one car. Is there a reasonble priced convertable that will do the job of towing my Bailey Pageant? David

id be interested to hear views on this...
if i ever decided to tow a caravan ( not until im a lot older....) i was thinking that a nice diesel Audi A4 or BMW 320d convertible might be suitable?

Convertibles are often heavier than their saloon counterparts as the bodies are beefed up to gain rigidity. That could be an advantage for outfit matching providing the engine is up to the job as well.
Convertibles usually have limited luggage carrying capacity which might be a downside for someone who wants to carry, say, an awning in the car.

We have a Saab convertible which is quite a heavy car and has a 1.9 td engine. We have seen the odd one towing quite big vans(17 foot) .Thought about putting a towbar on it but we prefer to tow with our Sorento as it is bigger and higher!
Saab is the fun car.
You can get the Jeep Wrangler as a soft top which is a heavy 4x4 with 2.8td engine. If you have the cash there is the new Range Rover Evoque convertible!
We saw one at the local dealer nice but pricey!
Or a Ford Mustang convertible, can be had as a 2.3 ecotec or 5.0 V8-mmm yes please!

We used to tow our Lunar Steller with the wifes Ford Focus CC 2ltr petrol. It was funand towed ok but it did have limitations, i.e. 18mpg. Storage was never a problem as there is only the 2 of us and the focus has quite a lot of boot space even with the
roof folded0 -

All 2016 Mustangs have a max towing limit of 454kg!
Not very good for a big car !!

Plenty of Saabs about and no problems with spares.
A lot of parts are common to Vectra in a stylish body.
Mine is 9 years old and is very reliable, but only done 64000 miles!

We have an Audi A5 3.0L quattro convertible which tows fantastic. Very heavy car which can tow up to 1800kg if your experienced. I would recommend to anyone as not only easy to tow but great fun too? If you need more info just ask.

Hi i'd be a bit more carefull with Saab, especially high mileage ones, we look after a couple with high mileage, recently had to make up power steering pipes for one as no longer available, some parts are getting scarce, but to be fair there all still going
strong, and are probably good value for what you'd pay for them0
