Auto gearbox are the best

Time we got back to crash gearboxes and hand signels, this would give real drivers more room on the road to do real driving. When one has to think what they are doing before they do it. Even better get back to starting handle. Even more of the road.

So you think/hope you'd be the only one left on the road? Auto drivers don't drive them because we HAVE to, we do because we CAN

MM, wasnt that a superb first post from a newbie. How to win friends, eh?
Mind you the resemblance to another Mac is remarkable.

ALL cars should just have 2 pedals ..... one for each foot
Haven't had one like that since I was four years old.
Try it .... but let me be infront while you practice
Not sure I'd fit in it any more.
Anyway, a few more years and the argument will have moved on to " you aren't still using a steering wheel, are you?"

Autobox created for the 'hard of co-ordination' some of us relish the challenge of being in control using the brain as well as 2 feet. Hand/3 pedals/2 feet-it ain't rocket science MM. . . .For some of us.
No worries, you do your thing I applaud you for opting out.hard of co-ordination ..... I can if I wish too, as you say it ain't rocket science ... even you manage ....
, but I saw the light nearly 30 yrs and progressed to 2 pedals - my towcar isn't available with a manual boxThanks MM. So, as a holder of a driving licence for a car with a gear box & fiddly clutch thing I can drive an Auto too. Whereas those
who hold a licence for Auto box car have to pass a separate test to drive a manual(gear box & fiddly clutch thing) that suggests to me the Auto is for the 'hard of co-ordination' or maybe I should be fairer & say-'lazy drivers'. Whatever it is it seems advantageous
to have a Manual Joking
aside-it's choice, I will no doubt try one in time, maybe even like it0 -
My Mitsubishi Shogun is a manual shift but I must admit, I would prefer an auto. When you're stuck in traffic you're in and out with the clutch all the time. I find it rather heavy going on my left leg.

my towcar isn't available with a manual boxMine neither but then they know nobody would buy them if they did make manual versions.I tow a long way every year and have better things to do with my time when sat in that seat than expend mental energy on gear changing..

Hmm, telepathic gear changing.

Tow car has a manual box which I like (and car gets shoved in cruise control for the long boring motorway runs) but I do agree it can be tedious and hard work in slow moving traffic constantly changing gear. Our other car is a SLK with a silky smooth auto
box which I really like too - especially when I overide the auto to quickly overtake! On balance, at the mo happy to keep the manual in the Kuga.

We bought our first auto car in March and we are wondering why the devil we didn't buy one before. As an ex mechanic I never really liked auto boxes but the autos of today are amazing, if you have never tried one please do because I think you will be very plesantly suprised.
PS They could have just been made for towing.

I am another who wishes I had changed to Auto years ago - especially for towing - and no nothing wrong with my co-ordination I just love how relaxing it is leaving more energy at the end of the drive.
Pip, relax, it was a giggle was the co-ordination quip. That MM started it

If you buy car with a decent auto box performance you will never want to go back to manual. Apart from the usual advantage in heavy traffic conditions they are much better for hill starts and even setting off in slippery conditions. All Discoveries and the full sized Rangerovers have only offered autos for years and they are amongst the top performing tow cars (Discovery being the top tow car of the decade according to Auto Express and others.)

Just waiting to take delivery of my first automatic after 50+yrs with a manual. Just hope I enjoy it as much.
Stick with it .... after a day or 3 you'll wonder why you ever persevered with a manual
I certainly will stick with it,MM, can't afford no to!!

I have just ordered a new Volvo V90 and this only comes with auto box with 8 speeds. My present Volvo is auto and isn't it funny that the Volvo autos can tow more than the manual gearboxes. I would never buy another manual gearbox because why bother when autos are so reliable and easy. The new Volvo also has a system where it can drive itself along the motorway as it has a electronic system that keeps it in the lane and also the cruise control brakes for you if you come up on a slower vehicle . It also has a parking system which can park next to the kerb or reverse into a carparking space on a carpark.
