Best towcar on mpg for large caravan
We are looking for a weightier car to pull a Coachman Pastiche 575. Currently we have a Volvo V70, kerb weight 1600kg. Can anyone recommend a towcar that is not a diesel guzzler? Low mpg rates are offputting. Appreciate any suggestions.

You need the best car for the job and really shouldn't let MPG be your god.
Your whole question is rather vague, to be honest, as you haven't given any preferences as to auto/manual, saloon car, estate, 4x4 etc. You haven't told us the all up weight of your caravan and you haven't said what you consider to be diesel guzzling - 20
mpg, 30 mpg....Why not draw up a short list and then ask for people's experiences of the various models?

What makes you think that you need a weightier car? Are you having problems with stability? If so, maybe relatively minor measures to your existing outfit, such as tyre pressure increase, tyres with greater lateral stiffness, noseweight adjustment, stiffer
shock absorbers both on the car and caravan, etc., could improve matters.0 -
Considering how much you have invested in your car and caravan I really wouldn't worry too much about saving a few miles per gallon. Even if you could save...say 10 miles for every gallon of fuel (unlikely) you'd have to get through a lot of fuel to justify
the expense of changing cars - unless of course its time to change it.0
