What car to tow my van with

I can find many outfit matchers for a car and a caravan but nearly all want you to pick the model/make of the car.

We are looking to change our car (currently have a Galaxy 1.9TDi) and I'm looking for a system where I can put in my caravan details (Bailey Senator Virgina 2008) and it will tell me which cars can tow that and ideally show if they've had any tow car awards.

Happy to pick type of car (we know we want an SUV or people carrier).  It won't be a new one - probably something at least 5 years old and we'll know the budget we have to spend (up to £8000).  Am I looking for something that doesn't exist or is such a matching
service available.  

Alternatively do any humans have recommendations for me:

  • Mass in Running Order (Kg) - 1259
  • Maximum Technical Permissible Laden Mass (Kg) - 1495

Ideally looking for manual transmission (we live on a steep hill and like the control of using gears to drive down it in the winter rather than having to touch brakes) and preferably diesel for better MPG

    You can always tell an auto to not change up .... you can have as much 'control' as you want to

    Try a Honda FRV 2.2 Deisel. Manual. Good SUV with good economy and decent towing performance. Shame they don't make it anymore. Not too many good ones out there though but you may be lucky. May be a bit light for you though....

    The caravan club matching service is known for its inaccuracies! I would double check the kerb weight, torque and bhp of any car on it with the manufacturers figures.
