We recently had to take our and van for some panel work done, I noticed that the bleeper when indicating stopped working even tho the indicators worked on the car and van.

We were going to change the car in the 4 weeks the van was away and so I never bothered to investigate, however collected the van today and again the bleeper did bleepr a couple of time when checking lights etc then it stopped and hasnt worked again.

Any ideas please? Where is this bleeper located?

Even better we are due to leave tomorrow for 2 week hols.

Iffy connection ..... ? The bleeper could be anywhere in the back of the car where the towbar fitter found room. I'd leave it as it is ... I can't stand an extra bleeper

The bleepers circuitry works by sensing the electrical current that the caravans' indicators draw. A standard indicator bulb 12v/21w draws 1.75 amps, For instance; if for some reason there is a slight voltage drop i.e. Engine ticking over with a high electrical demand at that particular time, then said bulb may not be drawing exactly 1.75 amps due to voltage drop, so the bleeper sensing thinks that the indicator is not working, so it stops bleeping. Another thing can cause it not to bleep; if the bulb filament has lost it's correct resistance due to age/wear. One more thing, corroded indicator wiring or connections, this can change the indicators circuit resistance.

Just of a matter if interest, as many new trailers are now being fitted with LED rear light clusters, within the light cluster, there is a shunt across the indicators' LED, this is to fiddle the system so said LED draws 1.75 amps so the trailer indicator
warning light functions correctly within the towcar. For those that might not know; LED lamps draw a lot less electrical current than conventional vehicle bulbs, without this shunt the towcar would always detect indicator failure.
