Pirelli Scorpions vs Continental Cross Contacts

Hi All,

I have a Volvo XC60 which has always been very stable whilst towing. The other week I needed 4 new tyres and the tyre dealer suggested I tried Pirelli Scorpions instead of the Continental Cross Contacts - What a mistake!

Within 5 miles of home my wife commented on "the van moving around a bit today". I had already noticed it as well. The tyre stockist has offered to swap them for Continentals (Just waiting for him to get back to me).

The van was loaded as normal, car tyres (235 / 65 / 17) at same pressure and also at the dealers suggestion of 45 psi instead of 39.

I spoke to a guy with a Freelander on the same Pirelli's, albeit a lower profile version on 19" rims compared to my 17" ones and he said they were fine.

Could it be they are a softer compound and the sidewalls are flexing more?

The car is fine solo and I would ay has a slightly softer ride than with the Continentals.

Has anyone else had problems with them please?

Fitted as originals on LR Disco and always replaced like for like, never had a problem in 56000 miles. Do have to increase tyre pressure when towing as recommended in LR handbook.

My XC60 was hopeless on the factory Pirellis, I`ve changed to Nokians (a respected Finnish brand) and it`s much better. If you have been offered a swap to Continentals I`d take them!
