Got the X-trail back. It's had a new primer & a new fuel filter. Thats it. Since it was serviced by Nissan less than a thousand miles ago I don't much rate the service!
Just shows how important proper servicing is. If the fuel isn't at the right pressure when it reaches the injectors then they can't work properly. Less power & probably poor economy. The bill would have been £150 which actually isn't too bad. Want
to get the van on the back and see how it performs.0 -
Whats a new primer?
The fuel filter isnt actually changed every service. On the M services i had it was every two years or around 23K miles from memory.
Crap in the fuel or tank will quickly make up the filter, then it goes into bypass and reaches the injectors.

Well whatever the primer is it didn't work. The car ran better but still has a cold start problem. It was 11 degrees the other morning & it didn't want to start at all..... Took it back to the dealer today for a refund. Under the amended sale of goods act Oct 2015. Even a used car if it has a fault can be rejected within 30 days. I took the X-trail to another garage for a second opinion & they believed it had been chipped & needed new injectors. Around 2K in one of these. I just couldn't take the risk and am now starting again. Sadly the old Audi is long gone so I'm carless now. Was a nice drive when I'd got the thing started though.....

Motorway and urban was a dash but within the limits to the pick your own strawberry field and the late 20's a recent trip to carsington, up and down the Derbyshire dales. Every time you take it out is gives you an mpg result and the option " do you want
to update?"0 -
My OH's i20 over-reads by about 7mpg.

So does my Passat as did the A6 before it. In practice I get 42/3 mpg measured brim to brim against a computer read out of 50+. If the xtrail has been chipped it should be possible for a specialist to check by interrogating the ECU against the factory mapping.
I personally suspect it has more to do with using crap fuel over the long term or possibly had an accidental fill of petrol?0 -

Having finally given up on our too light Audi as a tow car. Looking at alternatives that are affordable as a daily drive. Found a tidy Nissan X-trail and took the plunge. But o dear. The economy is a long way from the officail figures. Was hopeing for mid
30's conbined. Actually getting mid 20's driving like miss Daisey. So since theres nothing wrong with it & it checks out fine at the garage. I0 -
i achieved a massive improvement running shell ultimate diesel after posing a question on BBC 5 live to their automotive expert. On a 1500 mile round trip to france last year i saw an overall increase of 5mpg in my towing mpg for the trip over using standard
Shell fuels. This standard shell fuel gives me a 2mpg increase than using standard supermarket grade fuel. I measured my findings from brim to brim fill ups to get a true figure rather than relying on the onboard computer figures. In my case they did however
tally to within 1/2 mpg0 -
Agree totally. Sadly I ran the Nissan on Shell nitro and still couldn't beat 30mpg. My old Audi woudn't run on anything else. It went into limp home mode with the turbo cutting out. Really think the nissan needed new injectors. On the Dyno Nitro gave me
another 8 horse power and 3mpg over standard pump fuel in the Audi. Some cars respond better than others. Depends how they are mapped.0 -
The 1999 audi i owned was designed to use high octane petrol. On the occasions i ran it on Optimax it would produce the 180 horses, a little less power on normal supermarket fuel.
So a little bit more power (Audi couldn't say what extra power) but absolutely no improvement on fuel economy. It was also in the manual that normal octane could be used with no ill effects.
Back then i would make notes everytime i filled up using brim to brim, never had more than 33 mpg solo no matter how i drove it. Typically 22 to 24 towing 1333kg.

My Audi was a Diesel. It made what it was supposed to with Nitro in it. Put it on the dyno to trouble shoot. Turned out to be poor quality fuel that was to blame. (Well down with anything else.) It actully wasn't supermarket fuel. I could tell you the brands
but the club may get sued so I won't. Too much bio-ethanol. I wasn't the only one to have problems.0
