Has anybody considered getting one of the new Jaguar SUV, the F-Pace, as a tow car?

Looks quite good and should be a suitable tug but if I were to consider I would wait a year or so and buy second hand

Saw one in town this week, impressive car, not in our budget range unfortunately. Sad

    Not considered one.

The basic car isn't cheap and only has 178bhp, no where near enough, go for more power and youre looking over £40K.

IMO the car deserves at least 200bhp. Its not the best in group anyway according to a recent group test the discovery sport beat it, fitted with the same engine.

Depends on what 'best' means. As an off road vehicle probably not, as a drivers SUV probably the best. However I think it looks stunning, it's British and had I won the lottery last night I would have one.

JLR are owned by TaTa, so no longer British. The £65m Euromillions win would command something befitting, surely? Like a G63 6x6 converted to RHD for c£300k Tongue Out

They are designed, engineered and made in the UK and that makes them British to me. And I don't do showy bling so G6.3 doesn't do it for me!

Write your comments here... Its as near British as you will get. The other British makers are Japanese or German on that basis.

The harsh reality is that there is no longer a British car maker, although TreVoR is about to have a rebirth. One could reaonably argue that the others are car assemblers dependant on the capability of their supply chain, both physical parts and intellectual
capability to 'invent' those parts. Common platforms, engines, drive trains etc across assemblers. The romantic notion of a UK car industry is just that. Fortunately names of the past are sufficient in quantity to be reborn. Tongue Out

I try to avoid any car made in Britain.

Last car i bought that was called British was a Mini Metro, thatcher convinced me to buy one to fly the flag, in her words " it will be right first time"

It was easily the worst car i have ever owned, it had a engine oil leak on day one burnt oil at a high rate, left me calling the AA for recovery, and had so many faults it would take to long to post them all.

The final straw for my British car (fitted with French glass and German brakes etc) was when rust was showing through the front wings at 2 years old, despite haveing full Zeibart rust proofing and paint protection.

I think the F-Pace looks great, it probably drives great as well.  But as a tow car I am not sure, as mentioned above the standard 2.0 ingenium diesel is good, but somewhat underpowered for such a large car.  They offer a 3.0 diesel that is not available in the Disco Sport, but the premium over the 2.0 is a whopping £13.5k over a decent spec 2.0.  No feasible way to justify buying the 3.0 which starts at circa £51k before selecting any add ons...
