I have a MK 5 Mondeo with 13 pin electric. When the car and van have side lights on and you brake, the van brake lights do not work and the car dash tells me that the brake lights have failed and the trailer lighting module has also failed. But if the side
lights are off everything works fine. Anyone else had this problem? If so what did Ford or trailer electrics specialist suggest? Ford have had a look and told me its the van lighting combo of LED and normal bulb?. Any help advice is apprecited.

I'd hook the car up to a known to be OK trailer board (or similar) and see what happens before I went any further. Dodgy earth connections can throw up strange faults

I think MollysMummy's idea isa good way to check your cars basic towing electrics. You could also consider popping into a specialist towbar fitter who would check the car out for you. If still a problem the towbar fitter could possibly suggest a solution.

Have you tried the Car on any of your friend's caravans and does the fault still manifest it'self.

Have you asked any of your friends to plug his car into your caravan.

That will establish where the fault lies.  If the caravan is ok on the other car, take your car to your towbar fitter. Unless you are an autoelectrician there is little you can do yourself.

If on the other hand   the caravan lights are not working properly when connected to the other car you can always do a few checks yourself with a DVM. Or have the van checked out by a caravan servicing organisation.

Hope that helps - A bit long winded I'm afraid---- Sorry.
