New Nissan x trail
Hello all,
help needed please in choosing the car for a Pegasus 6 berth Ancona.I have my mind set on the new Nissan xtrail manual 2 WD 1.6 diesel but unsure whether or not it has the power to pull the van. Any help from anyone who has the car would be grateful or
anyone in the know Thankyou.

Practical Caravan did test it not long ago. If I remember correctly they said it was a competent tow car for lighter caravans but it might struggle with heavier ones. My feeling is the Ancona would be too heavy for that engine if you want decent performance.
It is a pity that Nissan have not given it an alternative more powerful engine as it certainly deserves it.It is a very new model so not sure how many towing owners there are out there.

Oh dear.. now what do i look? We have ancona van , a large roof box an awning full size steel poles. Cycles for kids and we towed all this with the vauxhall antara 2 litte.
Was looking for something in the £30.000 price range any ideas anyone , weve looked at all sorts even the ssangyong tourismo big but ugly as sin.

Does it have to be new?
Your budget will get you a barely used Volvo XC60 / XC70 with a decent D5 engine that`ll easily pull your van.....
These small capacity engines may well be good for emission figures and solo fuel economy (under test conditions obviously) but they`re not suited for towing in my opinion.

How about a newish lower spec LR discovery Sport. Hsve seen them at less than £30k?

We managed to get one of the last old model X Trails 14 plate for towing our Unicorn. It was a replacement for our 57 plate X Trail which we were very happy with. Still a great tow car, but not as easy to drive as the 57 plate due to the gear ratios, which
they have tweaked for fuel economy. If they have done the same in the new one, with much less power available, I don't think I would like to tow with it.0 -
Like SteveL, I have old model 14 plate XTrail which I am looking to change next year. After reading reviews of the new model, it won't be one of those so am looking around for something else. I heard the
rumour of a new engine for 2017 but thought I had read this was petrol not diesel. Does anyone know anything about this?0
