VW Towing electrics and LED caravan lights

I have 65 reg VW Passat 150 bhp B8 . I had a Westfalia detatchable towbar fitted with 13 pin electrics. The 'clever' electrics on the car do not appear to recognise the high level LED brake light on my Swift Challenger Sport. A call to the club's technical
advice line gave the answer that this was a 'known' VW issue but could offer no advice. Any answers?

I can't answer for your specific case, but I have found that my BMW's electronics seem to have 'learned' what type of lights are fitted to the caravan. After a couple of hitching/unhitching cycles I no longer get an error message.

Are you sure its not a fault on the caravan? as the brake light circuit for the normal brake lights and the high level led brake lights are fed by the same circuit on the wiring harness therefore if the normal brake lights are working the led high level
should function as well as there will be a supply and earth going to it?
