Caravan brakes
Can anyone give me some advice please ? I have just had my caravan serviced for the first time sinse buying it last year. On my first trip out with it i was unable to reverse up any sort of incline because the brakes were applying on. The mechanic has been
back and insists they are not over adjusted as they both move freely when raised off the ground. It used to reverse without any problems up hills, can anyone give me some causes or solutions to the problem

The way the auto reverse mechanism works is that as the plunger is pushed back the brake shoes come into contact with the brake drum, the reverse mechanism then pushes the shoes off the drum. Was it ok before service? i would have the guy back and demonstrate
the problem to him. It does sound as if the brake adjustment is too tight, yes ok to rotate.0 -
yes it was fine before the service, it is only when reversing on hills though not the flat. what is the reverse mechanism ?

some caravaners at work say that they are working correctly now and just use your mover when trying to reverse

I've amended the title of your thread as I presume that you're referring to the brakes on the caravan rather than trips (breaks) out.

When out on the road there is always the possibility of having to reverse so you need the revesing mechanism to work. In the circumstances the mechanic needs to come back and fix them.

.... can anyone give me some causes or solutions to the problem
It seems that your problem is the bloke that adjusted your brakes. When you reverse the caravan, the shoes are supposed to collapse inside the drum to allow the caravan to go backwards ...... they're over adjusted

I second that. Get someone different to check them.

If this "engineer" got the brakes wrong and made it worse what else has been mucked up?

Exactly why I suggested getting someone else to check them.
