Both feel perfectly safe it's just that 6th didn't seem to return better figures than 5th, the revs for 6th at 60 mph were quite low and almost feel as the car doesn't like it. Also off to Italy soon so i will want to drive for economy too.

Once up to 55mph, 6th gear and cruise set.  Having spent nearly £40k on tug and caravan I'm not going to get uptight if I don't get 30+ mpg!Surprised

I have just towed from North Wales to South Wales towing a Swift Conqueror 570 with my Toyota Land Cruiser LC4 Auto and have achieved 21.3mpg which when you look at all the hills and no motorway driving i think it's not bad for a 3.0 litre turbo 194bhp I
drive to arrive safely and not worry about fuel or what gear the auto box wants to use.

The thread is about which gear for towing, not how good your car might be, or whether or not fuel consumption is a concern.

Always tow in the highest gear possible if your vehicle starts to to labour drop down a gear you can use more fuel if in a higher gear and try to accelerate and go no faster so drop it down.
