Vauxhall Antara
Is the Vauxhall 4x4 Antara any good as a tow car?
If so why are they so cheap compared to other 4x4?

It is in actual fact an excellent tow car and the latest 2.2 is not heavy on fuel I get 44mpg solo and 30mpg towing .the equipment levels are low but I bought it to tow my 1650kg and not for the toys Yes the older versions were poor but the 2016 models are
good0 -
The Antara has the Fiat 2.0lt engine and is the Chevrolet Captiva series 1, the series 2 Captivas have a 2.2lt Chevy Engine, both are manufactured by Daewoo and both are great towcars, I have owned both Chevy models as Automatics but never achieved more
than 22mpg irrespective of towing or town driving, one thing to be aware of is the DPF, these vehicles are not suited to town driving and if they go into DPF dump whilst towing up a hill you will know about it through the loss of power, but otherwise they
are great cars, well made and underated ...0 -
LMAO! Competent? Not big on fuel?
I had one, worst car on planet Earth! Towed our 1555kg caravan ok, IF you like bouncing around and IF it didn't breakdown!
I had no end of trouble with mine, it was broken down more than I drove it. The DPF used more fuel than a supertanker and it was just terrible on fuel, REALLY terrible! It used more diesel when not towing than our 200,000 mile Discovery 3 does when towing a 3500kg trailer.
It was just awful and I only had it for 18months till I got shot of it for my Volvo V70. The Climate control wouldn't work, it used epic amounts of diesel, the gearbox was dreadful, the steering failed on a roundabout a few weeks after a service from lack of power steering fluid, it broke down because a connector had come off of a fuel injector, it broke down because of the air flow metre. It broke down every week for one reason or another including on the A303 with no hard shoulder, no parking places, it went into limp home mode, 30mph towing a 26ft long caravan, three children in the car with artic lorries thundering past.
Vauxhal could only say "They all do that mate"
It cost me a huge amount of money, time, effort and distress but Vauxhall couldn't give a monkey's bottom!
That lifetime or 100,000 mile warranty is useless because Vauxhall lie about the cause of the problem, there is either nothing wrong with it or it's your fault!!
I wouldn't wee on Vauxhall if they were on fire, dreadful company making dreadful cars!!There was lots more that happened withit but there was so many and it was two years ago so I can't remember them all.
If you still buy one, I told you so!

I agree with MollysMummy. I had various Vauxhall's for twenty five years, and never had a day's trouble with any of them. My last one a Vectra estate I had for seven years and was brilliant towcar. In fact it was a better all round towcar than my current
Honda CRVThere are plenty of satisfied Antara owners out there, I know a few who swear by them, but as always you only hear the horror stories.
Would I buy a Vauxhall again? You bet I would.
