has anybody towed or towing with a Vauxhall Zafira Tourer? Only reason asking is we are thinking of getting one but the Caravan Club says it's a poor match because of torque, yet towsure say it's fine. The one we have seen is 2013 plate Cdti SE edition 2.0L 165bhp

RPM for maximum torque for BHP 4000.00

Maximum Torque 350.00

RPM for maximum torque 1750.00

Our caravan MTPLM is 1100kg MIRO 790kg

like I say everything fine apart from the torque according to Caravan Club match, but Towsure and Practical Caravan say it has good pulling power.

Confused,help please?

We have a Zafira Lite 2.2 automatic petrol and tow a Lunar Ariva which has MTPLM of 980 Kg.  MIRO is 828 kg. It tows our caravan with no problem at all.  When we were changing our car we asked the CC about the Zafira and like you they said it wasn't a good
towcar. It is a long story of why we eventually bought one but I won't bore you with that.

I'm certainly no expert but I do have my concerns over the cc matching service, I did a check for a land rover discovery td5 for my caravan that is 1340kg fully laden and it said it wasn't a good match! It said it was underpowered and would struggle!Worried

Thought it was strange as the Zafira Tourer looked perfect in every way apart from what the CC was saying with torque and yet other cars at around the same were ok to tow with,bizzare.......

Have you looked at the detial in the report? Often the CC don't have all the information. Though I didn't think torque was one of the things checked, BHP is checked but takes no account of gearing.

PS I think that they think 40HP per ton of outfit weight is needed. I have towed with a little less with no problem

At 165hp, that would mean that the towcar is good for an outfit of up to 4 tonnes in total, but the OP's is well below that.
