Ford Kuga. It will be more economical than a Sportage.

I have towed a caravan rated at 1295 kgs all up for three years with a 1.8 diesel Mitsubishi ASX.  We've done major European tours and I can't fault it.  They are cheaper than Kia etc too.

I also tow with a Ford Kuga ( 140 bhp, 2WD, MTPLM 1350KG) and would agree with CY - more economical than the Kia

Just how economical can any car be when towing? My tow car's mpg around town is low 20s but when I put a ton plus wobbly box on the back it's ..... low 20s. Does anyone by a tow car for its economy?

Certainly not us, we bought the same again because we knew it towed our van well. However, there were other vehicles we considered which would have also done the job but had much worse solo figures than what we went with. So in this respect and because we
use our vehicle for more than towing, it is a consideration.
