I have never owned an Insignia but I have previously owned and towed with a Mondeo for five years and can highly recommend them.Smile

Proud owner of Mondeo Zetec Econotec 2.0 litre diesel "15" plate...this is my 7th Mondeo....The present one is £20 road tax, and at 150 b.h.p. gives me all the power for my Swift Challenger Sport 524SR.....Solo 56 mpg and towing  33 mpg....Don't buy new
as I found  one with 6000 miles for £17995 against a new one book price £23000.

You can probably buy new at that level of discount too. Shop around the car brokers such as drivethedeal.

This is a real coincidence, I have never owned either car but have spent today with my brother who told me that he wanted an insignia for ages but when he got one he was disappointed with it and found that there wasn't much room inside for the family and
dog, he had an estate version. He traded it in for a Mondeo estate and said he thinks it is great. Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for all the replies, its just that you do not see many insignias towing.

If I remember correctly when any test comparisons have been done Insignia versus Mondeo, the Mondeo has been chosen as a better all rounder and especially good as a tow car.

I have towed with an insignia 2.0 160 Bhp auto elite estate and it has been the best towing vehicle I have ever had, plenty of power, good on fuel, stable and a very good hand brake system for pulling away on hills, a great car

Weve been towing with a diesel Insignia SRi for 5 years now and is very good on power and gives between 25-29 mpg towing an Affinity 550.

Not so. Mondeos and Insignias occupy the same 'repmobile' segment and, IMHO, only the most discerning of drivers would be able to differentiate the relative merits of either model, hence the 'red car' 'blue car' comment.

Write your comments here...i thought we were all discerning driverers so we can tell a differance

well i can tell the differance  one is red and one is blue so there  is a differance right away

Hi, I owed with an Insignia 2.0 CDTI - 160BHP this was a great everyday family car and tow car, I towed a Bailey Pegasus Milan MTPLM 1499kgs without any bother, agree with earlier comment electronic park brake a real bonus when setting off with the van in
tow. PS I would reccomend the 160BHP agains the 130BHP for the extra grunt, goodluck with your choice.

Just asking ..... how is it? It's as easy to release a parking brake by hand as it by electrickery Undecided I just use a foot per pedal
in my auto so rarely use my parking brake anyway

Hi, electronic park brake just releases when you set off rather than having to find the biting point and reduces roll back on hill starts. Hope this has made it a bit clearer.

I know what it does ..... some Mercedes do similar, but it uses the car's hydraulic braking system .... but I've never had problems coinciding releasing a handbrake with setting off Wink I
just think of them as complexity for the sake of it

It would be the 160 I would go for do you find the head room a bit tight?

Hi Terry, The headroom in the front was fine for me 5`8", the back is more limited but ok I have found.

I have an insignia 160 manual (Company car). When towing (1500kg) I found it great once on the move but setting off even on the level was hassle, it would stall readily with the air on on. Setting off on moderate hills resulted it electric handbrake releasing
    too early and rolling backwards.

reversing solo up hill would have the clutch burning within seconds.

gave up towing with it as it was just too stressful, which does not make for a good start to a holiday.  I brought an old Kia Sorento just for towing duty. Would never have a car with electric handbrake again to use as a tow car.

I find the electronic handbrake is actually better for hill starts - at least on my Audi! just needs practice to get the clutch release timing coordinated. However if I bought an insignia it would only be the version driven by 192 horses with bi-turbo and
    4x4 drivetrain.
